Fortunately, your raft isn’t doomed to be a floating desert. Crafting purifiers offers a lifeline, starting with the Simple Purifier and progressing to more advanced options as your survival journey unfolds. Each purifier ensures you’ll stay hydrated and ready to weather the waves.
How To Get And Drink Water
It won’t take long before your thirst bar starts dwindling as you embark on your Raft journey. Once it’s completely drained, your health will gradually tick away, so staying hydrated is a top priority. To get your first batch of drinkable water, you’ll need a container to store saltwater, which you can then purify into fresh water.
There are three tiers of containers under the food/water tab in the crafting menu, each with a greater capacity for storing water. You’ll start with the simple Empty Cup, and as you progress, you’ll unlock better alternatives. Here’s a breakdown of these containers, how to unlock them, and what resources you’ll need to craft them:

Once you’ve crafted your first container, typically the Empty Cup, fill it with saltwater and get yourself a purifier. Pour the saltwater into the purifier, wait a short while, and it’ll convert it into fresh water, which you can collect using an empty container and later drink from to stave off dehydration or water your plants.
How To Craft The Simple Purifier
The Simple Purifier, like the Empty Cup, is available from the start. All you’ll need to craft a Simple Purifier is 6x Plank, 6x Palm Leaf, and 4x Plastic, and these materials are easily collected by fishing them as they float past your raft.
The Simple Purifier uses a basic distillation process to convert saltwater into fresh water, so you’ll have to fuel it with Planks, which burn to produce the necessary heat. It can handle one cup of saltwater at a time, giving you one cup of drinkable water in return.
How To Craft The Advanced Purifier
The Advanced Purifier is a serious upgrade over the Simple Purifier, sparing you the hassle of constantly burning Planks. It uses direct sunlight to distill water, producing up to five cups of fresh water, perfect for staying hydrated without all the micromanagement.
Before crafting it, you must unlock its recipe at the Research Table. Submit a Plank, Plastic, and Glass to do so. Once unlocked, gather 8x Planks, 6x Plastic, and 4x Glass (smelted from Sand in a Smelter) to build this handy purifier.
How To Craft The Electric Purifier
The Electric Purifier is the pinnacle of water purification, offering an automated process to keep you hydrated effortlessly. However, it’s not something you can rush into, as it requires a hefty number of advanced materials that you’ll start coming across after a fair amount of progress in the story.
First, you’ll need the Electric Purifier Blueprint, which you can find in Tangaroa. Once you have it, you’ll be able to unlock its recipe at the Research Table by submitting the following:
- 1x Titanium Ingot: Smelted from the extremely rare Titanium Ore you’ll find during Treasure Hunts using a Metal Detector on islands.
- 1x Circuit Board: Crafted from 5x Plastic, 2x Copper Ingots, and 1x Vine Goo after learning its recipe at the Research Table.
After that, you’ll need to gather these materials to craft the Electric Purifier:
- 4x Titanium Ingot
- 1x Circuit Board
- 20x Plastic
- 5x Scrap
Once you’ve built it, you’ll need to place it in a way on your raft so that the Electric Purifier’s hose can face the ocean water so it can pump saltwater. After that, you’ll need a Battery to power it, which you can craft using 1x Copper Ingot, 6x Plastic, and 3x Scrap after researching its recipe.
When operational, the purifier will continuously pump saltwater and convert it into fresh water, collecting up to 15 cups in its large tank for your convenience.
You can also connect Water Pipes between the Electric Purifier and a Sprinkler, enabling an automated sprinkler system for watering plants. However, setting this up will require additional resources and careful planning.
