How To Get & Use Duck Feathers

With the plethora of items available in Stardew Valley, sometimes players find themselves at a loss as to how to obtain a specific one. Alternatively, players may find themselves in possession of an item whose purpose seems unclear. Depending on play style, the Duck Feather can fall into either of these categories.

Raising animals can provide Stardew Valley players with plenty of useful items, but some, like the Duck Feather, may take a while to actually appear. Whether it’s for the Community Center, gifting, crafting, or simply in-game achievements, here’s how players can get their hands on this lovely green plume.

One such change is the addition of pet gifts — and the rare Duck Feather is now counted among those items.

How To Get Duck Feathers

To get duck feathers, the player will first need ducks, which can only live in a Big Coop or larger. As with all non-magical buildings for the farm, players must go through Robin at the carpentry shop in order to construct one.

For a basic Coop, the farmer must provide Robin with:

  • 300 wood
  • 100 stone
  • 4,000g

How Festivals Work in Stardew Valley

One major piece of worldbuilding in Stardew Valley is the festivals held by Pelican Town’s residents, offering players the chance to mingle.

To upgrade to a Big Coop, players will need:

  • 400 wood
  • 150 stone
  • 10,000g

Once Robin has completed the coop upgrade, players can purchase ducks from Marnie for 1,200g each. Once they mature, ducks will produce a Duck Egg every other day. However, if the animal is sufficiently happy and has high friendship with the player, there is a chance they will produce a Duck Feather in place of the egg. The best ways to raise friendship, and thus increase the chances of getting a Duck Feather, include:

  • Ensuring the duck is fed every day.
  • Petting the duck every day (or placing an Auto-Petter inside the Coop).
  • Letting the duck graze outside.
  • Ensuring the duck is not left outside overnight.
  • Placing a Heater inside the Coop during the Winter season.

Upon reaching maximum friendship with a pet cat, it is also possible that they will give the player a Duck Feather as a gift. Each day, the cat has a 20% chance to drop a gift when pet; if it does drop a gift, that item has a 1.7% chance of being a Duck Feather.

What Are Duck Feathers Used For?

Once obtained, Duck Feathers can be sold; however, they have a few other uses as well. If the player is trying to build friendship with Elliott or Leo, saving Duck Feathers is recommended, as they both count this item among their Loved gifts. Since these are relatively easy to come by once the player has obtained and befriended a few ducks, it is an easy path to friendship with these characters.
