Zoan Devil Fruits are the second most common variant of Devil Fruit in One Piece. A frequent trait exclusive to Zoan Devil Fruits is the classification of certain ones as different “models.”

Monkey D. Luffy isn’t the only one in One Piece with a voracious appetite. Here are several others who can vacuum food at an impressive speed.
This is due to many different species of the same kind of animal existing. To prevent redundancies, Zoans that take after a specific version of an animal are, at times, differentiated as models. These are the following categories of Zoan Devil Fruit, which have identified “model” variants thus far.
12 Ushi Ushi no Mi
Ox Fruits
- Models and their users: Model: Bison (Dalton), Model: Giraffe (Kaku)
The Ushi Ushi no Mi has two variants seen thus far, neither of which is an Ox. Dalton’s variant, which allows him to transform into a bison, was the first Zoan as well as the first “model” Devil Fruit with this distinction. Pairing well with his own physical strength, Dalton can utilize that of Bison’s in his combat abilities as well.
Kaku, already a somewhat tall and lanky man, makes oddly effective use of his own variant, which lets him become a giraffe. It also resembles a bunch of bananas, and is even capable of peeling. He is capable of launching his head and making use of the long neck that his new form affords him. He has recently awakened the Devil Fruit, becoming even stronger as a result.
The rationale for lumping these Devil Fruits together seems to be the species both being ungulates, or hoofed mammals, much like an Ox. The existence of a Devil Fruit that does in fact transform its user into an Ox is implied, but none have been explicitly revealed yet.
11 Hito Hito no Mi
Human Fruits
- Models and their users: Base (Chopper), Daibutsu (Sengoku), Onyudo (Onimaru), Nika (Luffy)
The Hito Hito no Mi has four variants seen thus far, the base one allowing its user to turn into a human. This seems like an especially useless Devil Fruit when one considers the majority of its users are in fact humans or beings of comparable intelligence and utility. Nonetheless, when granted to an animal, it unlocks capabilities for it that one would never think possible. This was the case for Tony Tony Chopper, who made practical use of his newly found intellect in a variety of different ways, notably becoming a skilled doctor.
Aside from its base model, all currently known variants of the Hito Hito no Mi are Mythical Zoans, endowing their consumers with the ability to transform into and gain the powers of mythical beings. Onimaru, who is a fox, has used his Devil Fruit to also gain a human form, along with intelligence and speech, in a similar manner to Chopper. Recently, Monkey D. Luffy, previously thought to have eaten a Paramecia, is revealed to have actually eaten another mythical variant of the Hito Hito no Mi, which allows him to transform into the Sun God, Nika. This Devil Fruit was reclassified as a Paramecia to downplay its importance.
Due to the vast majority of Hito Hito no Mi being Mythical Zoans, there is some speculation that Chopper’s may have a few secret powers that will unlock upon its own awakening. However, this is merely conjecture for the time being.
10 Tori Tori no Mi
Bird Fruit
- Models and their users: Falcon (Pell), Phoenix (Marco), Albatross (Morgans), Eagle (Buzz; non-canon), Nue (Toratsugu; non-canon)
The Tori Tori no Mi is a series of Devil Fruits that allow their users to become birds. There is no base variant for this Devil Fruit, which partially makes sense due to the diverse variety of birds that exist and are all still technically classified as such. Most variants of this Devil Fruit, grant their user the power of flight.
That being said, “Big News” Morgans, despite having the powers of an albatross, is ironically unable to fly. Marco’s powers notably go beyond flight, as he has the fire and rejuvenating properties of the mythical phoenix, which is still technically a type of bird. An interesting, albeit non-canon mythical variant is Toratsugu’s Devil Fruit from the series of artworks known as One Piece Art NUE, which allows him to transform into the yokai, Nue. While this yokai does not physically resemble a bird in any way, it is still capable of flight.
9 Inu Inu no Mi
Dog Fruits
- Models and their users: Dachshund (Lassoo), Jackal (Chaka), Wolf (Jabra), Tanuki (Bunbuku), Kyubi no Kitsune (Devon), Okuchi no Makami (Yamato), Hound (Hound; Currently Unseen), Bake-danuki (Pato; non-canon)
The Inu Inu no Mi is a series of Devil Fruits that allows their users to become dogs. It is first seen being used not by a human, but a bazooka, named Lassoo, who gained sentience, and was subsequently able to aid its owner, Mr. 4, in combat, acting much like an obedient dog. However, the majority of this variant’s users are human beings, who tend to favor the traits of various canines to improve their abilities.

The top brass of Baroque Works in One Piece is a mix of characters and abilities, but some of them are significantly stronger than others.
This is a fairly common variant of Zoan, although most of its models would not be classified as “dogs,” in the traditional sense. The uniting factor for these creatures, real or mythical, is a shared set of canine traits.
8 Uma Uma no Mi
Horse Fruits
- Models and their users: Base (Pierre), Pegasus (Stronger)
The Uma Uma no Mi allows its user to transform into a horse. This Devil Fruit and its other known model have the interesting distinction of both having been eaten by animals. This is likely due to horses being thought of as steeds, which would make horse forms useful for their owners to ride them in combat. This is far from the only thing they have in common. Both Devil Fruits, given their current users, are partially redundant.
Pierre’s Devil Fruit allows him to turn into a horse, which is odd once one considers he is big enough to be mounted in his base form. Stronger’s Devil Fruit seems to barely transform him as he is already a horse, making him the only known animal to eat a Devil Fruit representing a species he already is. That said, it does at least grant him the power of flight. Lastly, both Devil Fruit make their users look like pegasi, Pierre because he already had wings as a bird, and Stronger because that is what his Devil Fruit allows him to become.
7 Neko Neko no Mi
Cat Fruits
- Models and their users: Jaguar (Lucci), Saber Tiger (Who’s-Who)
The Neko Neko no Mi is a series of Devil Fruits that allows its users to become felines. Rob Lucci’s jaguar form made an impression as one of the most terrifying combinations of Zoan Fruit and user out there, adding to the already ruthless assassin’s repertoire. Like Kaku, he has awakened his Devil Fruit, adding to its strength a bit.
The other known variant of this Devil Fruit is an Ancient Zoan owned by Who’s-Who, a former member of Cipher Pol 9, much like Rob Lucci. Narrative wise, this Devil Fruit was likely given to him to further highlight his previous association with the group, as a handful of its members had Zoan Devil Fruits. Whether there is a variant of this Devil Fruit that allows its user to become a common house cat is something that remains to be seen.
6 Zou Zou no Mi
Elephant Fruits
- Models and their users: Base (Funkfreed), Mammoth (Jack)
The Zou Zou no Mi is a Devil Fruit that allows its user to become an elephant. Although this seems like it could potentially be a devastating Devil Fruit power, it’s misused in the hands of its current owner. Funkfreed is a sword who was fed the Zou Zou no Mi by Spandam, a government agent who is equal parts cruel and incompetent. Funkfreed seemingly acts his only means of self-defense, but it seems just as weak and cowardly as its owner.
The Model: Mammoth is an Ancient Zoan variant that is utilized by Jack, one of Kaido’s All-Stars. It was a power that was apparently good enough for Jack to trade his ability to swim, which is especially notable when one considers that he is a fish-man, whose skills are strongest in the water.
5 Ryu Ryu no Mi
Dragon Fruits (But Not That Kind)
- Models and their users: Allosaurus (Drake), Spinosaurus (Page One), Pteranodon (King), Brachiosaurus (Queen), Pachycephalosaurus (Ulti), Triceratops (Sasaki)
The Ryu Ryu no Mi does not transform its users into dragons. Instead, this name is used for the specific subset of Ancient Zoans that allows their users to transform into dinosaurs. All users of this variant of Devil Fruit are, or have previously been affiliated with the Beasts Pirates, a crew that prioritizes collecting members with especially strong Zoan Devil Fruits.
There is some artistic license as to what exact powers these Devil Fruits have, likely owing to the creatures depicted having all been long extinct. Examples include the brachiosaurus being able to launch its head and wrap its neck around foes like a snake. While conventional wisdom suggests this is likely a fabrication, it seems quite possible in the context of the One Piece universe.
4 Hebi Hebi no Mi
Snake Fruits
- Models and their users: King Cobra (Marigold), Anaconda (Sandersonia), Yamata no Orochi (Orochi)
The Hebi Hebi no Mi’s first two models debuted alongside one another as the Devil Fruits of Boa Hancock’s sisters. As their name implies, they allowed their users to transform into a pair of snakes. Like Hancock, their Devil Fruits were fed to them during their time as slaves to World Nobles. Due to their slave status being shameful in Amazon Lily, the sisters lied about their Devil Fruits as powers they gained from defeating a being known as the “gorgon,” who cursed their backs (where the brands are located) with petrifying eyes once revealed.
The third model, a mythical variant based on the eight headed Yamata no Orochi of Japanese mythology, was able to give its user, Kurozumi Orochi, an extra seven heads of his own. This allowed him to survive being beheaded up to seven times. Unfortunately, due to Orochi being an unskilled combatant, he could not make the fullest of the theoretically powerful Devil Fruit in combat.
3 Mushi Mushi no Mi
Bug Fruits
- Models and their users: Kabutomushi (Kabu), Suzumebachi (Bian)
The Mushi Mushi no Mi is a series of Devil Fruits that allow their users to transform into bugs. They were eaten by a pair of dwarves, which makes it unclear if the bugs the user transforms into are scaled to the bugs or determined by the size of the users themselves. The two Devil Fruits in this variant seen thus far give their users the power of flight, with Kabu transforming into a rhinoceros beetle and Bian transforming into a hornet.
2 Batto Batto no Mi
Bat Fruits
- Models and their users: Base (Stussy), Vampire (Redfield; non-canon)
The Batto Batto no Mi is a Devil Fruit that allows its user to turn into a bat. Interestingly, this Devil Fruit model predates its own introduction in canon. In One Piece: Unlimited World Red, the vampire model of this fruit is eaten by Patrick Redfield, an aged pirate seeking to reclaim his past power. He obtains it by sucking the life force out of Luffy, but ultimately decides to return it, and instead befriend the Straw Hat Pirates.
The base version of this Devil Fruit debuted years later when Stussy, a clone of Miss Buckingham Stussy, decided to betray her comrades in Cipher Pol 0, revealing her status as a secret double agent on behalf of Dr. Vegapunk. She is able to suck blood from her enemies to knock them out, even if they are awakened Devil Fruit users. Stussy is far younger than she looks, but it is unclear if this is a result of her Devil Fruit, her being a clone, or some other reason.
1 Singular Models With Unconfirmed Bases
Assorted Devil Fruits
- Models and their users: Sara Sara no Mi, Model: Axolotl (Smiley), Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu (Kaido), Kumo Kumo no Mi, Model: Rosamygale Grauvogeli (Black Maria)
There are a few Zoan Devil Fruits that currently have only a single known model. Smiley, a toxic gas compound created by Caesar Clown, has a Devil Fruit that turns it into an axolotl, despite it apparently being a model of a salamander Devil Fruit. Kaido’s Devil Fruit allows him to become a Seiryu, otherwise known as the Azure Dragon, a figure of great power and importance in various eastern mythologies. However, it is apparently a model of a Devil Fruit that allows its user to transform into a fish (which seems like a pretty awful power considering they wouldn’t even be able to swim.)

Black Maria’s Devil Fruit allows her to become an ancient spider known as Rosamygale Grauvogeli. She has had work done for the specific purpose of cosmetically altering her hybrid form to look more conventionally attractive. Unfortunately, this weakness was exploited by Nico Robin, who specifically targeted her more vulnerable upper body. It likely is not the only Devil Fruit with this classification, as Onigumo can also transform into a spider.
Although these Devil Fruits, being somewhat off-base models, imply the existence of others, it remains to be seen whether they exist in canon or will be actually be used by anyone. For the time being, its ambiguous whether these other models exist offscreen, or are merely just specifically classified a certain way for some unknown reason.
