Dragon Ball DAIMA Finally Brings Goku and Vegeta Back Together

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Dragon Ball DAIMA Episode 10, “Ocean”, now streaming on Crunchyroll.

Summary

  • Majin Kuu fails to defeat Tamagami Number One, leading to Dr. Arinsu’s disappointment and Kuu’s plea for redemption.
  • Earth’s heroes face various obstacles including a kraken attack, thief interference, and reunite on the original Namekian planet.
  • Demon Realm lore unveils the history of Glinds escaping to the outside universe, with a shocking reveal of Neva observing the heroes.

Dragon Ball DAIMA arriving at the expected halfway point of this series has seen the pace pick up considerably. Dr. Arinsu wastes no time at all by testing the recently created Majin Kuu against Tamagami Number One, and Gomah’s Gendarmerie continues to be a thorn in Goku’s side. As Earth’s heroes all converge on the Second Demon World, new details about the very origins of their universe come to light. It’s Tamagami time once again, but one villain’s re-emergence casts a dark cloud over the next chapter of Dragon Ball DAIMA.

The ever-present dangers of the Demon Realm may not always be in the same stratosphere as Goku and Vegeta when it comes to pure power, but they can still prove to be a nuisance. Goku’s group saw thieves slip away with the Three-Star Dragon Ball and a separate group stole Vegeta’s plane. They were short-lived efforts, but it slowed down the group as Dr. Arinsu’s plan to use Majin Buu’s essence for a new Majin came to fruition. Majin Kuu casts a menacing presence, but he’ll need a lot more than that to defeat Tamagami Number One.

The English dub of Dragon Ball DAIMA hits Crunchyroll this January, and a certain someone returns after a decade away from the franchise.

Dragon Ball DAIMA Tests Majin Kuu and Reveals Demon Realm Lore

Dragon Ball DAIMA Episode 10 kicks off with Majin Kuu already challenging Tamagami Number One. Dr. Arinsu is eager to see how her new weapon fares, and it looks like Kuu can actually match blows with his first opponent. Just as that fight is picking up, DAIMA jumps to Goku as his group reaches the Warp-sama and finally enters the Second Demon World. Episode 10, “Ocean”, does this jump pretty frequently as it rides the two plotlines of Majin Kuu vs. Tamagami Number One and the eventual reunion of Goku and Vegeta. A quick jump to Vegeta, Hybis, Bulma, and Piccolo leads to one of the funniest exchanges in the entire episode.

Hybis suddenly suggests Bulma could be his girlfriend, responds to Vegeta’s protests by offering a polyamorous option, and ends up calling out one of Vegeta’s kinks. It’s a small moment in the larger scheme of this episode, but Vegeta’s reaction to all of it is another hilarious moment for the least likely couple to come out of the Saiyan Saga.

When the action returns to Goku, Glorio, Shin, and Panzy, the Gendarmerie has finally caught up and opens fire only for Goku to jump out and destroy every last plane with ease. Damage to their plane leaves Glorio flying lower than intended, and a dreaded kraken immediately strikes. DAIMA ramps up the suspense here, but all four heroes manage to escape and Panzy risks her life at the last second to ensure they don’t lose the Three-Star Demon Realm Dragon Ball. With their plane destroyed, the group ends up seeking temporary refuge on the original Namekian home planet while Vegeta and Piccolo catch up. Goku rushes out to warn them about the kraken once he senses the fellow Z fighters are close, and their plane barely slips away unscathed.

Damage to their plane leaves Glorio flying lower than intended, and a dreaded kraken immediately strikes.

As they land, the two previously separated groups are finally reunited. Glorio’s arrival at The Lookout on such a small ship separated these two groups and prevented them from traveling together as Dragon Ball DAIMA began. With the exception of seeing each other for a brief moment in Episode 9, this is the first time they’ve all been on the same page since reaching the Demon Realm. As everyone catches up, Piccolo reminisces about the familiarity of a planet that his father King Piccolo once inhabited.

Meanwhile, Majin Kuu has realized he’s definitely not going to defeat Tamagami Number One. Completely gassed and staring down an opponent that seems entirely unfazed, Majin Kuu suddenly admits defeat and walks away. Tamagami Number One is done fighting and returns to his regular position, but Dr. Arinsu isn’t exactly thrilled by this outcome as they leave. After being fired by Dr. Arinsu on the ride home, Majin Kuu pleads his case to stay by insisting he’s a good singer and could be valuable if she sent him shopping.

Back on the original Namekian planet, Nahare (aka Supreme Kai) sheds light on the Glinds leaving the Demon Realm. Apparently, there was once a “good Supreme Demon King” that sought to expand the Demon Realm. That king ordered Super Majin Rymus, the highest authority in the universe, to create several new universes. Many different Majin began moving to those, and Rymus specifically chose a select few Glinds to monitor each universe as Surpeme Kai.

All of those plans turned sour when Abura, Dabura’s predecessor as Supreme Demon King, restricted use of the Warp-sama and exhibited such cruelty that many (including the Glinds) desperately escaped to the outside universe. Nahare (aka Shin) was chosen as Supreme Kai after that exodus. After that jaunt through Demon Realm history, everyone piles into the ship en route to Tamagami Number Two. Dragon Ball DAIMA Episode 10, “Ocean”, ends with a shocking reveal that Neva, the ancient Namekian working with Gomah, was present and observing that entire exchange between Earth’s heroes. A short episode preview at the end confirmed that Vegeta will square off with Tamagami Number Two next, and Dr. Arinsu’s evil plot will take another step forward when Dragon Ball DAIMA returns.
