Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur’s Gate 3 Should Keep an Eye on Split Fiction

Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3 Should Keep an Eye on Split Fiction

Hazelight Studios is back with another co-op adventure titled Split Fiction. The Game Awards were filled to the brim with exciting announcements, and Split Fiction was one of the most charming reveals of the event. Players take on the role of protagonists Mio and Zoe. The two aspiring writers are thrust into a simulation of their own stories, bringing larger-than-life levels front and center.

Mio is a sci-fi writer while Zoe prefers to write about fantasy, and each level in Split Fiction bounces back and forth between these two genres. Hazelight Studios charmed audiences with It Takes Two, and the studio is continuing its love for co-op storytelling with an exciting blend of sci-fi and fantasy. Such two different genres being brought into one story is compelling, and it could be the perfect game for fans of Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur’s Gate 3 to keep an eye on.

Split Fiction Brings Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur’s Gate 3 Aesthetics Into One Game

Hazelight Studios Balances Opposite Genres

Sci-fi and fantasy are two of the most popular genres in gaming, so Hazelight Studios’ decision to bring both types of worlds into one overarching story makes sense. What’s even more exciting, though, is that the different worlds Mio and Zoe have created share very similar appearances to Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur’s Gate 3. In Split Fiction, Mio and Zoe are complete strangers, and this is reflected in the opposing worlds they have written about. Even though they prefer different genres, the two have to work together through each level. The levels that were revealed at The Game Awards showcased beautifully crafted worlds that boast a cyber-fused metropolis and a dragon-filled woodland setting.

Split Fiction
will come to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on March 6, 2025.

Mio’s Sci-Fi World

While the finer details of Mio’s levels have yet to be shown, her written world is complete with tech suits and futuristic vehicles. There is even a quip about the world’s dystopian nature when an AI orb states that unpaid parking tickets will result in death. Of course, it’s a far more lighthearted approach to a futuristic dystopia, but this satirical take on the genre Cyberpunk 2077 does so well could prove to be a great blend.

Zoe’s Fantasy World

Zoe’s love for fantasy writing marks her levels as fertile soil for many staples of the genre, like dragons and giants. The dense forest levels look lush with their greenery, and the promise of getting to raise a dragon that has evolving mechanics is a clever way to make such creatures a huge part of gameplay. From the color palette to the general aesthetic, Zoe’s fantasy levels look reminiscent of Baldur’s Gate 3, which could make Split Fiction a great way for fans of the award-winning RPG to get an extra dose of fantasy.

Experiencing Two Iconic Genres in a Fresh Light

Split Fiction not only gives gamers the chance to enjoy new sci-fi and fantasy worlds, but it also presents friends with the chance to experience their favorite genres together in one game. Like Mio and Zoe, everyone has different genre preferences, and Split Fiction makes it possible for differing tastes to enjoy one game together. Hazelight Studios’ knack for making well-crafted co-op stories makes Split Fiction‘s upcoming release that much more exciting, as gamers will get another chance to work together through some unique levels.

The creativity of Hazelight Studios continues to bring imaginative co-op titles to life. Although Split Fiction has a lot of expectations to live up to after the success of It Takes Two, the balance between sci-fi and fantasy is an intriguing idea that makes it one of 2025’s standout scheduled releases.
