Bloodlines Should Have A Final Girl

Bloodlines Should Have A Final Girl

Summary

  • Final Destination 6 should feature a final girl character who doesn’t die, a horror trope fans would enjoy.
  • The focus on a final girl like Stefani could lead to several more sequels in the franchise.
  • A final girl increases the stakes, making her scenes scarier with the constant uncertainty of survival.

The horror genre continues to impress audiences with eerie stories about nuns knocking on the front door of a mysterious man’s house, an FBI agent trying to figure out a fascinating case, and a woman taking a strange drug in order to stay youthful and beautiful. Heretic, Longlegs, and The Substance were some of the past year’s wildest and most beloved horror movies. But there’s a popular franchise that I’m also thinking about, and that’s Final Destination.

Although fans have a long list of requests for Final Destination: Bloodlines, there’s just one thing that I think absolutely needs to be included. I’ve got an idea that I think will make Final Destination 6 particularly compelling. I also think that this idea could lead to a few more sequels.

I Believe Final Destination 6 Needs A Final Girl Character

Final Destination 3 Kevin (Ryan Merriman) and Wendy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)

I think Final Destination: Bloodlines should feature a final girl who doesn’t die. It would be fun to see the franchise lean into this classic horror trope. From the most underrated final girls to the most famous and talked about ones such as Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) in Halloween, I’d argue that these characters what make each scary film worth watching. Sure, it’s entertaining watching a ghost haunt a family who moves into a new old home in the country. And everyone obsesses over the kill scenes in each new Scream movie. But audiences root for final girls throughout the entire story. And since so many characters die in every movie in this franchise, wouldn’t it be nice to follow one person who makes it through every wild situation? They would be the strongest final girl of all and would be particularly impressive.

Final Destination: Bloodlines is said to be about a girl named Stefani whose grandmother was once meant to die but survived a bad tower accident. I think this character should be a final girl who goes on to star in Final Destination 7. I’d love for the sixth movie to have a frightening opening scene, but I also think there needs to be a character who fans can care about. Otherwise, the movie will be yet another entry in a franchise about characters who appear briefly on screen before getting killed in wild and brutal ways.

Sure, these deaths are arguably the point of the Final Destination franchise, and they are more than a little bit memorable. But, if Stefani and her backstory are the focus of Final Destination: Bloodlines, I think there should be at least one or two more movies about her. It would be cool if Final Destination 6 started a new trilogy and if a few movies explored what it means for someone to lose everyone close to them and still be standing.

If there was a final girl in Final Destination: Bloodlines, this would also up the stakes and make her scenes scarier. Audiences would think she could die at any moment and since she keeps surviving, this would keep everyone guessing.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Final Destination 3 Character Is Almost A Final Girl

Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Wendy in Final Destination 3

Although the point of the Final Destination movies is that Death comes for everyone involved in an accident or brutal situation, one character comes close to being a final girl. I’m talking about Wendy Christensen (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a likable and relatable teenager who makes Final Destination 3 so much fun to watch. I loved getting to know her and sympathized with the terror and profound sense of loss she feels after losing friends and classmates. At the end of the third movie in the popular franchise, Wendy has a vision that she and her new college friends will die on a train. Although she comes close, she isn’t a true final girl since the movie hints at her demise.

In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, Winstead talked about playing her character, and said:

Winstead continued:

“Meanwhile, a lot of people are just watching it for the gruesome deaths, you know. But the emotional impact was very important to me, so that’s really where I was coming from. And what I was excited about.”
