Earlier in December 2024, accessory maker Dbrand shared a render of a case for the Switch 2, with Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz claiming that the size of Nintendo’s next console will be 270mm x 116mm by 14mm with the Joy-Con controllers attached. Even without the controllers, the Switch 2 would still have a larger screen than the current Switch OLED model.

Though all rumors must be taken with a fine pinch of salt, another rumor about the Switch’s successor has been making the rounds. According to a post on the r/NintendoSwitch2 subreddit, a Reddit user named NextHandheld claimed that they somehow obtained a retail unit of the Switch 2 console, and confirmed that its name was simply the Nintendo Switch 2. A Reddit moderator stated that they were able to verify the claims they made about the Switch 2, and allowed the post to remain online. Although NextHandheld said they would not share any pictures of the Switch 2 or respond to direct messages, they took some time to answer a few questions posted by Reddit users. To start, NextHandheld stated the Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers have features that “could create new experiences” for some players, and stated that they enjoyed the weight and feel of the Switch 2 compared to the Steam Deck.

Between the alleged specifications of the Switch 2 and leaks of different accessories, the anticipation surrounding the Nintendo Switch’s successor has reached a fever pitch. When Nintendo will finally pull back the curtain on the Switch 2 remains to be seen.
