Okami HD Seeing Major Discounts Following Sequel Announcement
As reported by ComicBook, the HD remaster of Okami is seeing big sales across multiple online storefronts following the franchise’s bombshell announcement. The game is currently discounted to just $4.99 USD on both the Xbox Store and the Nintendo eShop, marking a 75% discount from its normal price point at $20. The sale is set to run through the start of the new year, with the Switch sale ending on January 1 and the Xbox sale on January 3. The sale is notably absent from Okami HD‘s PS4 version, with no confirmation about whether a discount will come for the game.
The revival of Okami comes as both Hideki Kamiya and Capcom have hinted at the potential return of several older franchises. Alongside Okami, Hideki Kamiya shared earlier this year in an interview that he wrote in Viewtiful Joe 3 for a Capcom survey, expressing his desire to direct a third entry in the action franchise. The survey also mentioned several other abandoned Capcom series, with properties like Dino Crisis, Darkstalkers, and Dead Rising in consideration for a revival.
Okami HD wasn’t Capcom’s only bombshell announcement during the 2024 Game Awards with another classic franchise set to return. Capcom once again surprised fans with the announcement of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, set to release in 2026. While the samurai action franchise was a mainstay for Capcom during the 2000s, the series has only seen a browser game and Onimusha: Warlords as a remake of the first game since 2006. Fans of Capcom’s classic franchises should have plenty to look forward to with both Onimusha and Okami coming back into the spotlight.
