In March, a new Gintama anime was announced. It’s not a sequel or a prequel, but the adaptation of a spin-off light novel series, titled 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei in Japanese (it means something like Teacher Ginpachi, 3rd Year Z Class).

Since then, not much information has been revealed since then, except a visual and the 2025 release window. This series is not entirely new to anime fans, the original anime adapted parts of it at the end of the episodes (they’re just humorous skits unrelated to the episode’s plot).

Well, now it has been confirmed that production will drop new information at Jump Festa 2025, later this month. It has been previously revealed that the anime is slated for 2025, so we might get a more detailed release window or even the premiere date. We can also expect they will drop a new trailer.

Anime Adaptation Main Staff

Bandai Namco Pictures is in charge of the series — BNP is related to Sunrise and has been involved with the Gintama anime since 2016.

Makoto Moriwaki is credited as director. He worked on Gintama episodes, but not as director (his directional portfolio includes Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun). Natsumi Higashida is credited as director. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Iruma-kun) and Mitei Mark II are the head writers.

Ginpachi-sensei serialization

The story is penned by Tomohito Osaki (creator Hideaki Sorachi is credited for the original work) and it ran from 2006 to 2018, compiled into 8 volumes. The story is set at a high school, portraying Gin as a teacher (called Ginpachi Sakata), and the other characters are students at the school.

Gintama
is licensed in the US by VIZ Media, but this novel remains unpublished in English.
