Summary
- Some Marvel Rivals players want Wolverine to be reworked as a Vanguard for better gameplay balance.
- Wolverine, a playable Duelist in Marvel Rivals, is considered too squishy despite his popularity.
- While some players suggest making Wolverine a tank class, others argue he should be played differently to maximize effectiveness.
Some Marvel Rivals players are unhappy with Wolverine and want him to be reworked into a Vanguard. Marvel Rivals divides its heroes into three classes, which are Vanguard, Strategist, and Duelist, with each one performing a different function in the team.
Wolverine is, specifically, one of the playable Duelists in Marvel Rivals, so his job is to dish out damage during matches. To do this, the hero has a kit of skills that uses his Adamantium claws to slash his way to victory, jumps to reach enemies, and a passive that increases his damage output. But despite being a very popular name, and a hero with one of the most entertaining Team-Up Passives in the game, some Marvel Rivals players want him to receive an important change to his gameplay style.

A Marvel Rivals fan shares a clever trick to counter Jeff, surprising the community with the simplicity of what players need to do.
Players want Wolverine to be turned into a Vanguard, the Marvel Rivals‘ tank class. Redditor AkilTheAwesome is one of these community members who, instead of asking for buffs for Wolverine, would prefer him to be shifted to a Vanguard, in addition to the addition of self-healing health and adjustments to cooldowns. Redditor Dude_with_hat mentioned Wolverine’s healing factor, and how, despite being a “literally immortal character,” his Marvel Rivals version “is super squishy.” With good humor, Redditor mayormcskeeze calls for Wolvie to be turned into a tank so he can “never lock DPS again.”
Marvel Rivals Players Think Wolverine Is Too Squishy
Other players agreed with the trio, but some gave a different perspective on the hero’s situation. One of them says that the problem isn’t Wolverine, but people playing him aggressively instead of prioritizing the enemy tank and making life easier for their allies. Another player noted that while playing Marvel Rivals as Venom and Spider-Man is meta, Wolverine is a hard counter to both characters. A third comment added that the character must stay close to the allies to isolate the opposing tank, and only then dive into the back line with the help of the healer.
Marvel Rivals released its first big update recently, but despite requests for changes to Wolverine, the patch only corrected an error with his Deadpool and Wolverine skin. The devs also haven’t indicated that they plan to make any drastic changes to the X-Men. So the community waits to discover if Wolverine will see any adjustments in future patches, and what his place will be in the Marvel Rivals meta when Duelists like Iron Man and Squirrel Girl dominate the matches.
