Just like with practically every live-service game these days, Marvel Rivals has launched with a seasonal battle pass system. This pass lets players grind out missions and spend currency on a wide assortment of unique cosmetics, and with each season, there will be a whole new set of items for them to grab. But, while Marvel Rivals‘ Battle Pass may offer a nice collection of stuff, it has seemingly been held back by its progression.
As of now, the only way for players to progress through Marvel Rivals‘ battle pass tiers is to complete daily and weekly challenges. The majority of these challenges are pretty simple, yet it often takes a lot of completed tasks before players are able to buy a single tier. Even though the battle passes may not be time-limited, this progression feels rather limited. So, if NetEase Games wants players to stick with Marvel Rivals, then it may need to shake things up considerably in a future patch.

Marvel Rivals’ Battle Pass Progression May Need More Depth
Marvel Rivals’ Battle Pass Progression Feels Rather Limited
Unlike other battle passes out there, Marvel Rivals battle pass can only be progressed via those daily and weekly challenges, which award Chrono Tokens to Marvel Rivals players. Additionally, some of the story challenges will also reward them with these tokens, along with a few other goodies. These are then spent on battle pass items, with each cosmetic costing around 200-400 tokens. Said tokens can only be earned from these missions.
This means that Marvel Rivals‘ battle pass progression feels extremely slow at times. It would hardly be the first game that ties battle pass progression to daily missions, but games such as Fortnite have also let players earn tiers simply by playing the game. With each match, they earn season XP and are rewarded battle pass tiers upon a level up. While the daily quests help speed up the process considerably, giving players more options to earn tiers helps make the pass far more approachable. And hopefully, NetEase Games takes note of that.
NetEase Games Needs to Give Players More Ways to Unlock Battle Pass Tiers
At launch, Marvel Rivals also has a leveling system. However, players are not really rewarded with anything upon a level up. The only thing that is connected to its regular XP system as of now is competitive, which only unlocks once players hit level 10. Outside of that, the regular leveling system is seemingly nothing more than a number they can display on their profile.
Since Marvel Rivals already has a leveling system, NetEase Games would not have to shake the formula up too much if it wanted to tie leveling to the battle pass system. Of course, the daily and weekly challenges could still be the primary way of earning Chrono Tokens, but along with that, players should also earn some tokens every time they level up their account. That would not only give them a bit more flexibility in earning battle pass items, but could also be the perfect incentive to keep them playing for hours on end.
The Marvel Rivals‘ community have been having a great time with the hero shooter so far, but many have taken issue with how battle pass tiers are rewarded. As of now, NetEase Games has not said if it has any plans to change things, but if it wants to continue to pull players in, then it may want to consider it. While the battle pass system does not ruin the experience, giving more players ways to earn tiers just seems like an easy win.
