Long-awaited upcoming anime RPG Arknights Endfield opens beta test sign-ups

As HoYoverse builds on the superb success of Genshin Impact with Honkai Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero, several other challengers have stepped up to the plate. Joining the likes of Wuthering Waves and Tower of Fantasy in this endeavor is Arknights: Endfield, a 3D anime action game set in the world of the free-to-play tactical RPG for mobile devices. First teased back in 2022, a new Endfield beta test is set to launch on PC next month, and you can sign up now for a chance to take part.

Arknights: Endfield takes the beloved world and characters of the main Arknights game and brings them into a full-3D action RPG in the vein of Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves. If you’re unfamiliar with the original gacha game, it features a wide range of stylish anime characters (known as operators) that you place onto a grid-style battlefield to hold out against waves of enemies in a manner akin to a tower defense game. As the worldwide launch nears its fifth anniversary, that means there’s a huge amount of story, characters, and environments for Arknights studio Gryphline to pull from, and it’s putting them to good use.

A new trailer for Endfield gives us a fresh glimpse of the action. Seeing some of its most iconic characters such as the red-haired stalwart Surtr rendered in full 3D is something that’ll give all Arknights fans a kick, and the combat looks like a blast for anyone on the hunt for the next great squad-based action game. Previous alpha tests have shown off some dramatic boss battles, and this latest look seems to be continuing that trend in formidable fashion.

I’ve had an eye on this one for some time. Arknights is a game I’ve always appreciated from a distance, but I’m not a big mobile gamer. Zenless Zone Zero on PC has been one of my favorite games of 2024, however, so I’m eager to give Endfield a try. Its blend of urban and sci-fi design combined with combat that looks satisfying and challenging rather than being a simple button-masher is ticking all the right boxes – I’ll be eager to give it a try in 2025, and you can put your name in the hat now for a chance to do the same.

The Arknights: Endfield beta test is set to take place in mid-January 2025. It will be taking place on PC, and you’ll need to pre-register and complete a survey for a chance to take part. Do so right here – you’ll have to fill out some details about your system specs and your gaming habits, and will be contacted via email if you’re chosen to join the test.
