Kingdom Hearts 4 Fans Are Losing Hope After The Game Awards

Summary

  • After nearly three years of silence, Kingdom Hearts fans expected to see KH4 at The Game Awards.
  • As we know, that didn’t end up happening, with Square Enix being strangely quiet overall.
  • The Kingdom Hearts community isn’t exactly taking the no-show well. It’s me, I’m the Kingdom Hearts community.

As you might expect, Kingdom Hearts fans aren’t doing so well after Kingdom Hearts 4 failed to show at The Game Awards like so many of us hoped it would.

Just a few days ago, The Game Awards 2024 gave us a bunch of surprising game reveals and stand-out moments, from Ninja Gaiden finally getting a new game after far too long to Naughty Dog announcing what it’s been quietly working on over the past four years. While it was a great show in all, there were a lot of expectations for what might show up.

Just another glimpse of Sora, and I’ll be happy.

Bloodborne, Half-Life 3, GTA 6, and Sony Santa Monica’s mysterious game have all been thrown around over the past week and none of them ended up making an appearance. While those were fairly unrealistic, there’s one title that had every chance and reason to show up and then was completely absent – Kingdom Hearts 4.

Kingdom Hearts Fans Aren’t Taking The Game Awards No-Show Well

Originally announced at the series’ 20th-anniversary event nearly three years ago, Kingdom Hearts 4 has been in the dark ever since its reveal. With Square Enix finally done with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and so many rumours about big “holy s**t” announcements at The Game Awards, it’s fair to say that Kingdom Hearts fans were pretty set on it being shown off a few days ago.

As we all know now, that wasn’t the case at all, with Square Enix being surprisingly quiet during the event as a whole. While Kingdom Hearts fans are used to long waits by now, the community isn’t exactly taking the no-show well. Over on the Kingdom Hearts subreddit, many of the recent posts are jokingly (at least, I hope so) reacting to KH4 not being at The Game Awards.

One popular post says that Kingdom Hearts 4 isn’t real and that the subreddit is all about Devil May Cry moving forward. Another post worryingly points out that a recent Square Enix investor report said that the studio doesn’t have a big title coming out in the next “couple of years” that will help with its bottom line.

And, of course, there are the typical clown posts for anyone who was hoping to see the game, which are about as common as in the similarly suffering Silksong community. My favourite of the bunch has Sora standing in a padded room repeating “Kingdom Hearts 4 is real” to himself over and over again, which captures my exact thoughts as well.

This is far from the first time that Kingdom Hearts 4 hasn’t shown up when it was expected to, but it is getting a little bit much now, especially as some fans hoped to see it release in 2025 after Rebirth took up this year. Here’s hoping we at leat get some kind of news over the next 12 months.
