The trailer for the new Naughty Dog game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has not been received well, with roughly 125,000 “dislikes” and counting. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was the show-closing announcement at The Game Awards 2024. A brand-new IP from Naughty Dog, the studio that created Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted, and The Last of Us, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is a sci-fi action adventure game.
In Intergalactic‘s trailer, players are introduced to main character Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter who lives in a world where advanced space travel was possible in 1986. The unique setting gives Intergalactic retro vibes despite its story following a space-faring bounty hunter. While no gameplay was shown, the trailer suggests Intergalactic will be a third-person action-adventure game with a big focus on melee combat.

Every Real World Reference in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet
The reveal of Naughty Dog’s upcoming new IP Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was bursting with retrofuturist real-world references.
Naughty Dog’s track record is enough for many to be excited about Intergalactic and what it brings to the table, but many others are not happy about the game. The negative reaction to Intergalactic is evidenced by the game’s trailer, which has been flooded with dislikes. YouTube no longer shows dislikes, but according to the Chrome extension Return YouTube Dislike (which is not 100% accurate), Intergalactic‘s trailer has about 125,000 dislikes at the time of this writing.
Intergalactic Trailer Dislikes
Browsing through the comments on the Intergalactic trailer YouTube video, it seems many are unhappy that the main character is a bald woman, with some accusing the game of being “woke.” While a great deal of the criticism appears targeted at Intergalactic‘s protagonist, others have taken issue with the trailer’s product placement, with brands like Sony, Porsche, and Adidas in clear view. Others still seem upset about the events of The Last of Us Part 2 and have voiced their lack of confidence in Naughty Dog to deliver when it comes to the new IP. Some of the harsher comments have gone as far as to compare Intergalactic to Concord, a fellow sci-fi PlayStation exclusive that was shut down mere weeks after its release.
Despite this initial reaction, it’s more likely than not that Intergalactic will be a high-quality game. Naughty Dog consistently puts out critically-acclaimed titles, and while some were not happy about The Last of Us Part 2‘s plot, the game still managed to win Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2020 and is indeed one of the highest-rated video games of all time. It’s too early to say if Intergalactic will earn similar acclaim and sales, and it’s also too early to write it off completely.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Propher follows Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. In fact, anyone who’s flown to it hoping to unravel its mysterious past was never heard from again. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit.
