Just about every spell and skill in Path of Exile 2 uses Mana to cast. While there are some builds that focus on basic attacks, every class will fall back on some skills in combat to help give them an advantage their basic attacks just don’t provide.
Spell-casting classes will use a lot of mana as there are many low-cost spells that are much more effective than a basic attack, and even with a high Max Mana, you’ll run out eventually. Arcane Surge is great for those who use up their Mana completely in combat; here’s exactly how it works.

How To Get Arcana Surge In Path of Exile 2
Arcane Surge is a support skill that is unlocked by using a Support Gem. It is found along the top line of intelligence skills, and once carved into a gem it can be equipped with any of your currently unlocked skills. While support gems are usually only applied to the skill you place them on, a list of all affected skills will be shown to the left of the Arcane Surge display menu when hovering over the equipped support gem.

How Does Arcane Surge Work In Path of Exile 2
To activate Arcane Surge, you have to spend 100% of your Mana on a skill it is equipped on. Because of natural Mana recovery, this means it won’t only trigger when your mana fully runs out, but only when you’ve used whatever your total Mana’s worth of Mana on that skill. For example, if your max Mana is 100, you’ll have to use 100 Mana on a specific skill, so don’t worry about what the Mana orb shows at the bottom of the screen. Once activated, Arcane Surge gives the following boosts:
- 10% faster cast time for all spells.
- 20% Mana recovery speed.
- Lasts 8 seconds.
Once Arcane Surge is triggered, a small blue orb will appear around your character and will circle them for the 8 seconds. Along the top left side of your hotbar will also be a small box with the Arcana Surge icon and a timer, letting you know exactly how long it is in effect for. Anything that increases your cast speed is a huge boost, making Arcane Surge a must-have for any spell-focused class like Witch or Sorceress. Boosting your Mana recovery is also very useful with the cast speed boost, as you’ll also be using up your Mana faster.
