So when the chance finally presents itself, he challenges Leo to a duel in the coliseum, a battle to see just who’s honour should be tarnished. Egged by the regent, Garland, it’s not like Leo can say no. Sebastian doesn’t exactly like to play fair though.
Unlocking The Besting Sebastian Quest
While you do fight Sebastian in your very first encounter with him, that was hardly enough pummeling of Leo for him to be satisfied. No, his satisfaction comes as part of the Satisfying Sebastian quest. Makes sense.
To unlock this quest, you must first have saved Cheryl and Kina from the wormhole, and must have then defended the palace from the mechteria infestation. Immediately following the end of the latter quest, speaking with Sebastian will have him issue his challenge. Off to the arena you go.
Speaking with Sebastian before you have saved Cheryl will reward you with a Vibran Secret Stone, which boosts the EXP you get in combat.
Beating Sebastian
Just like your initial battle with Sebastian back on the Uzra, this opens as a one-on-one battle. You take a few turns softening each other up before Sebastian decides to reveal his secret move – his twins. Turns out, Sebastian is not a single individual at all, but triplets.
At this point, both Kina and Cheryl appear to lend you a hand in this decidedly unfair battle. There is no healing or recovery between these phases, so do still try to keep Leo healthy in the firt battle.
Leo, Cheryl, and Kina are the only party members you can use during this battle, so don’t worry about swapping out. Instead, make sure you have good jewels equipped, as well as powerful moves unlocked from the Growth Map.
Cheryl will have already unlocked her upgraded Divine Artefact by now, so make sure to invest in her Tension skill.
First off, you’ll want Jewels to increase both Attack and Defense, so put some Emeralds and Rubies on Leo and Cheryl. The Sebastians can cast quite a few status effects on you, such as poison, slow, and mist, so equip Cheryl and Leo with the Jewels to prevent this if you have them.
Kina, aside from the odd usage of Holy, will be on healing duty this whole fight. Cure and Resist will be some of her most used abilities, while having Heal All is a massive help in maintaining the party. Barrier is great here too as it prevents the debuffs from Hidden Gimmick, and reduces the damage taken from more powerful attacks.
The Sebastians themselves follow a pretty standard pattern, alternating between Charging Formation, and Defensive Formation. Here’s what they do:
- Charging Formation – The Sebastians lines up and begin charging, striking each party member with Vital Strike on the next turn.
- Defensive Formation – The extra Sebastians stand in front of the main Sebastian and Guard, reducing the damage they take and making it impossible for Leo and Kina to hit the main Sebastian. The main will also cast Desperation.
This is their whole gimmick. While in Defensive Formation, you should take that time to heal and debuff the Sebastians. You can’t curl attacks around them either, so Cheryl’s Knight Impact is one of the only moves that can hit all three right now. You can also use this period to cast Mist on them, making their attacks much more likely to miss.
That’s it for the most part. While the Hidden Gimmick attack is the most dangerous for the random status effects it can deal, as long as Kina isn’t sealed, she can Cure any party member anyway.
The main Sebastian will also use Phantom periodically to increase his evasion, so you should attack the extra Sebastians during this time. The most important thing to focus on during this battle to choosing a single Sebastian and focusing all your attacks on them to defeat them quickly.
The extra Sebastians have low lower attack, defense, and HP than the main Sebastian, making them easier to defeat.
Once a single Sebastian is defeated, the remaining ones will cast Desperation, increasing their attack but dramatically lowering their defense. At this point, you’re just mopping up the remnants. Cheryl’s Absolute Zero Tension skill is great here, especially if you Charge her beforehand.
After they are defeated, Sebastian will concede that perhaps Leo is not so bad as he made him out to be, and gifts him the Ultimate Fists for Zinikr as a reward.
