Even with so many skins for players to choose from in Fortnite, the game’s Marvel-themed skins have become a mainstay. Marvel skins are consistently added to Fortnite, making a recent skin leak including various Marvel characters unsurprising. However, the inclusion of one skin in this lineup proves that video games are hedging their bets on one specific character.
As part of the alleged Fortnite x Marvel Rivals collab, popular Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR shared images of a harvester and glider inspired by Marvel Rivals’ Galacta. While the Galacta glider was confirmed by Marvel Rivals, a skin of fellow NPC Doom 2099 was not. If these leaks are true, however, Doom 2099 could still be headed to Fortnite.

Doom 2099 is Having a Major Gaming Moment
Doctor Doom has already solidified his presence in Fortnite. In Chapter 5: Season 4, Doctor Doom acted as the main antagonist. The catalyst for Absolute Doom’s storyline was Doctor Doom opening Pandora’s Box, whose power he absorbed. He then establishes the Kingdom of Doom with the help of newfound allies like Emma Frost, Mysterio, and Mewtooth. To solidify his reputation as a villain, Doom kills Silver Surfer, Ultron, Galactus, Magneto, and many other major Marvel characters. In an attempt to save his reality, Magneto calls for heroes from Reality: 616 before passing.
With this version of Doctor Doom being so villainous, it may be surprising to some Fortnite fans to find that Doom 2099 is not. In the comics, Doom 2099 is seen as more of an anti-hero rather than a flat-out villain. This portrayal is somewhat continued in Marvel Rivals, where Doom 2099 is competing with one of his more villainous counterparts to dominate reality.
This difference, along with the fact that this new skin is part of collaboration, justifies Doom 2099’s addition to Fortnite. In fact, Doom 2099 and the Absolute Doom version of Doctor Doom essentially fill the past and future roles in the lore of Marvel Rivals. Adding Doom 2099 to Fortnite would also confirm that 2024 has been a major gaming year for the character. Joining Fortnite as a skin would mark the third game he’s joined this month.
Marvel Rivals is Collaborating with Everyone
Marvel Rivals officially launched on December 6 with thirty-three playable characters. While Doom 2099 is a NPC, his role in the lore of Marvel Rivals is integral and demonstrates the game’s version of the multiverse. The experiments of Doctor Doom and Doom 2099 went haywire, causing countless universes to collide in the Timestream Entanglement, leading to the various heroes and villains in Marvel Rivals to interact.
Like Marvel Rivals, the character roster in Marvel Snap pulls from not just the most popular Marvel characters, but from the niche. Doom 2099 is part of yet another Marvel Rivals collaboration, if the Fortnite leaks are true. As part of Marvel Snap’s new “Marvel Rivals Season,” new cards directly inspired by the character designs of Marvel Rivals will be added to the game. This includes Doom 2099, who is accompanied by Galacta, Luna Snow, Peni Parker, Bruce Banner, and Rocket Racoon and Groot. This season will run from December 3 to January 7, with Doom 2099 being added on December 17.
Doom 2099’s addition to Fortnite will not only complete a trifecta of video game additions; it will specifically associate the character with Marvel Rivals. Though the Fortnite leaks are not confirmed, Marvel Rivals has confirmed that they are collaborating with the game. With Marvel Rivals characters already debuting in Marvel Snap, it seems all the more likely that Doom 2099 will conclude his major gaming moment in Fortnite.
