A new update for the PS5 and PC versions of Final Fantasy 7 Remake has added an optional “head start” mode that lets you fast-forward cutscenes and get various boosts when you start playing.

With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth releasing earlier this year and Square Enix not hiding the fact that the untitled third and final part of the remake trilogy is well underway, most fans have already wrapped up both adventures and are looking forward to the future. That being said, there are some people who might have only just started the series or who want to speedily see what the fuss is about.

FFXIV’s Echoes of Vana’diel raid series has made me so nostalgic for FFXI that I want more of it to cross over, and I don’t mean just as a raid.

Although Final Fantasy 7 Remake isn’t exactly the longest or most open game already, Square Enix has just released a new update for the game that adds an optional “head start” mode. This unique setting, which is comparable to a difficulty mode, offers a variety of bonuses to both Cloud and Yuffie’s campaigns to make them easier to get through.

If You’ve Not Finished Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Now’s The Time

As reported by RPG Site and pointed out by Twitter user Genki_JPN, the new update for PS5 and PC adds several optional features when starting a new game that makes completion a lot faster. Perhaps the most interesting of these is the ability to fast-forward through cutscenes and events, letting you play them at 1.5 or 2.0 times speed instead of skipping and missing them out.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s cutscenes and characters are some of its best elements, so even if you’re in a rush I’d recommend just watching them anyway.

Each character in your party will start at Level 45, just five levels away from Remake’s cap. That means you’ll also have the equivalent SP and be able to customise and upgrade your party how you see fit. That’s more than enough of a boost, but it’s just the start, as players will also get several Materia at max level and a bunch of items.

Combine that with the 50,000 Gil and several accessories and pieces of Gear that are usually only available towards the end of the game, and new players or those wanting to get through fast should have no difficulty getting through Remake. The update only just released, but it’ll be interesting to see how fast speedrunners can get through the game in this new mode.
