Following the recent release date reveal of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth‘s PC version, director Naoki Hamaguchi recommended the port for the lighting options on the new platform. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was initially released exclusively on PlayStation 5 earlier this February and is the second entry in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. The second part sees Cloud, Tifa, Barrett, Aerith, and Red XIII pursuing Sephiroth, recreating iconic moments from the original JRPG in high-definition and expanded cinematic flair. While many fans did jump on the initial PS5 release, many were also waiting for the game to drop on the PC, just as Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade did back in 2021.
Square Enix finally announced that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would be coming to PC during The Game Awards 2024, with this new version of the game launching on January 23, 2025, via Steam and Epic Games Store. Square Enix also confirmed the various graphical features this new version would have, including enhanced texture quality options, compatibility with Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology similar to the PS5 Pro’s enhancements, along with more lighting options. Director Naoki Hamaguchi commented that the last part is why he is recommending the PC version for fans.

Fans hoping to take Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth with them on the go by way of the Steam Deck receive an encouraging update from Square Enix.
In a recent post on Hamaguchi’s Twitter account, he states that he recommends the PC version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth because of the improved lighting. He also expresses his excitement about fans being able to experience this game on the platform. The requirements of the PC version were also recently revealed following its announcement at TGA 2024, with gamers needing at least 16 GB of RAM along with at least an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X / Intel Core i7 10700 CPU and AMD RX 7900 XTX / Nvidia RTX 4080 GPU to get the most graphically impressive version of the game and 60 FPS.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Director Recommends PC Version for Its Lighting Options
The PS5 version of Rebirth, while still visually and technically impressive, has had a few noted hiccups from fans, including the unnatural lighting in some areas, with patches only making the problem more noticeable. Most notably, some frustrated users have commented on how the areas look so incredibly bright that it takes fans out of the experience, especially when going from an indoor to an outdoor area.
Even with the PS5 Pro Enhancements for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, fans are asking Square Enix to patch these lighting issues. One fan notes that the enhanced lighting shouldn’t be limited to the PC version and that the developers should address the issues on the PS5 platform, too. Only time will tell if the PS5 version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will get some post-launch patch to address this particular complaint.
