Summary
- Animal Devil Fruit users are rare in One Piece.
- Zoan Devil Fruits for animals have minds of their own.
- Stronger, Pierre, and Onimaru are notable animal DeVil Fruit users.
In the world of One Piece, it seems that Devil Fruits can be used by anything with the ability to consume one. Most commonly, this means humans and other species of comparable intelligence. However, it can also mean animals and even inanimate objects.
All things considered, animal Devil Fruit users are a relative rarity, but they still exist nonetheless. Most Devil Fruits consumed by animals have been Zoan Devil Fruits, which have been said to have minds of their own. Perhaps these Devil Fruits wanted to see how their animal’s appearance might blend with that of another animal. These are all the animals in the series who have eaten a Devil Fruit and gained its powers.

6 Tony Tony Choppe
A Human Reindeer
- Debut: Chapter 134 (Manga); Episode 81 (Anime)
- Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi
Tony Tony Chopper is by far the most prominent animal to have eaten a Devil Fruit, seeing as he is a member of the Straw Hat Pirates. His consumption of the Hito Hito no Mi gave him human intelligence. It was this level of intelligence that made him recognize that, as a blue-nosed reindeer, he was an outsider from his red-nosed clan. He put this intelligence to use by becoming a doctor.
Chopper eventually joined the Straw Hat Pirates, becoming the crew’s doctor. His human intelligence allows him to freely communicate with all of his crewmates, unlike most animals on pirate crews, who often only work alongside a single partner. He has also maintained the ability to communicate with animals, being able to translate their statements to humans and vice versa.
Chopper combined his human intelligence with the three forms he was afforded as a Zoan user to create a drug known as the Rumble Ball. This drug allowed him to transform into even more forms, which emphasized various aspects of himself for different styles of combat. For example, his Guard Point strengthened his fur, while his Horn Point buffed his antlers.
His final form thus far is the Monster Point, which turns him into a hulking beast. Chopper once went mad during this form, but has learned to control it enough to maintain his mind as it activates. With additional help from Caesar Clown, he managed to make the transformation last up to 30 minutes, with the drawback of temporarily shrinking even more once it ends. Ultimately, it seems like Chopper has made the most of his new abilities.
5 Stronger
A Pegasus Horse
- Debut: Chapter 223 (Manga); Episode 146 (Anime)
- Devil Fruit: Uma Uma no Mi, Model: Pegasus
Stronger is a sickly horse sporting a pale blue color. He is a service animal to Doc Q, the doctor of the Blackbeard Pirates, who is in quite poor health himself. While Stronger does not appear to fare much better than his owner, he acts as his legs, as Doc Q is far too sick to walk on his own. Stronger has traveled with the Blackbeard Pirates longer than some of its top members, since Doc Q was one of Blackbeard’s first four crewmates.

One Piece: Strongest Fire-Based Devil Fruits, Ranked
Wielding fire is a common fictional trope, and is also seen in One Piece’s many Devil Fruits. Here are the strongest fire-based Devil Fruits so far.
Since the Summit War, the crew has expanded massively, allowing Doc Q to become one of its Ten Titanic Captains. The Blackbeard Pirates have since taken to targeting Devil Fruit users, killing them and stealing their powers through yet unknown means. This is presumably how Stronger received his own Devil Fruit, a Mythical Zoan that transforms him into a pegasus. Since Stronger was already a horse, the only cosmetic change this seems to have granted Stronger is the ability to grow wings. Nonetheless, this comes with the power of flight, allowing Doc Q to travel in the air as well as on land.
4 Pierre
A Horse Bird
- Debut: Chapter 237 (Manga), Episode 153 (Anime)
- Devil Fruit: Uma Uma no Mi
Pierre is a Sky Dot Bird, a pink bird with polka dots all over its body. He is the only one of these birds to appear in the series thus far. Pierre is owned by Gan Fall, the God of Skypiea, who reclaimed the title after previously having been ousted by Enel. Pierre is immensely loyal to Gan Fall, and acts as a steed to him in battle. He will also try to attack anyone who bad-mouths his master.
Pierre’s Devil Fruit allows him to transform into a horse. Pierre often uses the hybrid form of this Devil Fruit, which makes him resemble a Pegasus. The only issue is that Pierre was already a viable steed as a bird, as he is big enough for Gan Fall to ride on. This makes his Devil Fruit powers some of the most redundant in the series.
3 Onimaru
A Yokai Fox
- Debut: Chapter 936 (Manga), Episode 932 (Anime)
- Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Onyudo
Onimaru is a Komagitsune, a fox native to Wano with a mane and tail that resemble flames. He was a pet of Shimotsuki Ushimaru, the daimyo of Ringo, prior to the latter’s death. Since then, Onimaru has worked alongside Kawamatsu, one of Kozuki Oden’s former retainers, to gather weapons for the final battle against Kaido.
Onimaru accomplishes this by robbing people who cross him, which he partially achieves through his Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit. Onimaru’s Devil Fruit allows him to transform into a towering monk yokai known as Onyudo. In this form, Onimaru is known as Gyukimaru, and has greater intelligence, even being capable of human speech. He can duel against Roronoa Zoro, although the swordsman is clearly stronger than him. Nonetheless, Gyukimaru shows great speed and agility, being able to effortlessly steal weapons, including Zoro’s Shusui, and run off with them. As far as animals with Devil Fruits go, Onimaru seems to be one of the strongest.
2 Noko
A Sleep-Inducing Seahorse
- Debut:One Piece: Ocean’s Dream! (Video Game)
- Devil Fruit: Nemu Nemu no Mi
This character is
non-canon.
Noko is a seahorse who dreams of becoming a Senneryu, or Thousand-Year Dragon. He seems to think he can accomplish this by stealing the memories of others. Though the character exists across multiple continuities, only the version of Noko in One Piece: Ocean’s Dream! is confirmed to have eaten the Devil Fruit. Ironically, Noko is not able to swim in water, his own terrain, as a common drawback of Devil Fruits, but can somehow float on land.

While they were still alive, these One Piece characters were a force to be reckoned with.
Noko’s Devil Fruit allows him to steal the memories of others by putting them to sleep and absorbing them. However, all it takes is a single hit for the memories to hemorrhage and return to their original owners. Little is clear about Noko and his origins. He seems to be nothing more than a common seahorse who somehow has a higher level of intelligence and the ability to communicate with others. Nonetheless, Noko, at least in the timeline where he did eat a Devil Fruit, is the only animal Devil Fruit user to have not consumed a Zoan. His abilities seem to rest in the Paramecia category.
1 Buzz
An Eagle Bulldog
- Debut: One Piece 3D: Straw Hat Chase (Movie)
- Devil Fruit: Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Eagle
This character is
non-canon
.
Buzz is a bulldog, a longtime companion to the pirate Schneider, and his sole known crewmate in the Schneider Pirates. He is capable of battling Luffy briefly, and has a surprising amount of strength for an old bulldog. Buzz was the only one of Schneider’s crewmates who refused to leave him when he disbanded his crew years ago.
Buzz’s Devil Fruit allows him to transform into an eagle, gaining the power of flight and becoming an eagle-dog hybrid. Buzz used this ability when Schneider challenged him to catch Luffy’s straw hat, concerned that the coughing up of blood meant he was destined to die. This quest was meant to distract Buzz so that he would not see his owner pass. However, Buzz used his Devil Fruit to capture the hat without much effort.
This led to a chase between Luffy and Buzz, which resulted in them dueling. Fortunately, Schneider’s ailment, which he thought was caused by aging, was in fact the result of him unknowingly swallowing a fork whilst eating spaghetti, which pierced his stomach. With treatment from Chopper, Schneider was able to recover.
