Elden Ring Nightreign was a surprise reveal at The Game Awards earlier this week. This brand-new Elden Ring game is multiplayer-focused, letting parties of three explore The Lands Between and take on bosses together.
However, just because it’s a multiplayer-focused game, that doesn’t mean that Elden Ring Nightreign is a live service. That is at least according to the game’s director, who insists that Nightreign will launch as a “complete package”, not as a game that gets much of its content after launch.

“Everything is unlockable, everything is contained with that purchase”
In an interview with PC Gamer, Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki gave us a better idea of what we can expect from the game.
“With Nightreign, we wanted to have a game that felt like a complete package out of the box on the day of purchase,” says Ishizaki. “So everything is unlockable, everything is contained with that purchase. It’s not what we’d consider a ‘live service’ game.”

In fact, unlike other multiplayer games, it doesn’t seem that the devs have exhaustive plans for seasonal updates, new events, and the like. In the interview, Ishizaki says that the team is “still in the process of thinking about the possibilities” for post-launch content, only mentioning balance patches at this stage.
Elden Ring Nightreign is set to launch at some point in 2025. Unlike Shadow of the Erdtree, this is not an expansion for the Elden Ring base game and can be purchased as a standalone release. There will be a Network Test in February, with registration opening up next month for anyone interested in playing the game early.
