A new manga by Norihiro Yagi was published in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ app this month. Yagi gained fame among national and international audiences with Angel Densetsu and Claymore (the latter is probably his most famous manga worldwide).
This new manga is a one-shot, titled Mukuro to Kishi (something like The Dead Corpse and The Knight, but Mukuro could also serve as someone’s name). There isn’t much information on the plot, but one-shots might serve as a way to test the waters for new serializations (but they can be just one-shots, too).

Norihiro Yagi’s Career as Mangaka
Angel Densetsu, Claymore, and Ariadne
Yagi is a mangaka from Okinawa Prefecture, who debuted professionally during the 1990s when he was in his 20s. Back then, he applied for the Akatsuka Award and his work, Undeadman, won the awards and was later featured in Monthly Shonen Jump (the monthly version of Shonen Jump ceased publication in 2007).
After that, he started serializing Angel Densetsu in Monthly Shonen Jump. The story follows a boy with “the heart of an angel” but “the looks of a devil” and terrible social skills. It ran from 1992 to 2000, and was compiled into 15 volumes (with a total of 155 chapters) and adapted into 2 OVA episodes in 1996. This series has not been published in English (neither the manga nor the animation).
A few months after finishing Angel Densetsu, Claymore started to be serialized in the same magazine and reached international fame. When Monthly Shonen Jump ceased publication, Claymore moved to Jump Square. The medieval fantasy manga featuring female knights fighting against humanoid monsters ended publication in 2014 and was compiled into 27 volumes. Viz Media published the manga in the US. The manga spawned a 27-episode anime produced by studio Madhouse (with lots of differences from the source material) and is currently licensed in the US by Crunchyroll.
From 2017 to 2023, Yagi serialized Ariadne in the Blue Sky in Shogakukan’s Shonen Sunday (2017-2022) magazine and Shonen Webry (2022-2023) platform, so he is now returning to Shueisha and the Jump label. Ariadne was compiled into 22 volumes, but has not been licensed in the US. It follows the story of a boy who lives isolated from the world, up until he meets a girl. Between Claymore and Ariadne, he published the Arcadia of the Moonlight one-shot.
Claymore
is the only manga penned by Norihiro Yagi that is licensed in the US (by Viz Media). It spawned an anime licensed by Crunchyroll.
