CarX Drift Racing 3 is a cross-platform drift racing title, developed by CarX Technologies. In this game, you can build your dream drift car with over 60 iconic bodies and 3000 body kits. Not only that, you can also drift and race around various iconic tracks like Ebisu, Nürburgring, ADM Raceway, and more, using cars inspired by iconic JDM brands like Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and more. In this CarX Drift Racing 3 review, I will share my impressions of the game and provide an honest rating.
For this review, I played CarX Drift Racing 3 on two different devices, Motorola G32, a low-end device, and iPhone 13, a mid-range device, accumulating a total of 15 hours of playtime. This allowed me to fully explore and experience all the features, providing me with a solid foundation for a thorough analysis. If you are just starting with the game, we have also covered the Beginner’s Guide to help get a grasp of the basics. Engaging gameplay but Drifting is quite challenging to master
Starting with the CarX Drift Racing 3 review, let’s talk about the engaging gameplay, offering an immersive drifting and drift racing experience. With iconic race tracks, you can master the art of drifting while burning your tires on some of these legendary tracks.
On top of that, you can enjoy drifting with your dream drift car, inspired by iconic JDM cars and over 80 customizable parts per car to fine-tune and customize each car to your preference and taste. If you are interested in learning about the history of drift culture, you can try out the game’s single-player campaign, featuring five chapters with an in-depth history of drift racing and its current evolution right from the 1980s.
By playing campaigns, you can unlock additional game modes and features like the car shop, racing tracks, and more. However, it is very challenging, as even going off track or spinning out while drifting gets you disqualified. I truly enjoyed every moment I spent in this game, although it was quite challenging in the beginning. Like real life, even here, drifting isn’t easy.
But what hooked me to the game is the new damage system, which is properly detailed. It gives a realistic feel when you crash, like bumpers popping off, body kits getting damaged over time, and more. Not only this, if you crash a lot while drifting, your car performance starts to decline, and the game even shows tire condition. You will need to repair your car after your drift sessions like you would in real life, which takes time but makes the experience more real.
Customize your real-life inspired cars with iconic body kits
One thing that all car enthusiasts and racing fans love is car customization, and this game delivers it very nicely, which has always been a hallmark of CarX games. You can build your dream drift car to your heart’s content, with cars inspired by iconic JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) brands, and even European and American brands, that look very similar to the original cars.
The game offers 60 iconic bodies and 3000 kits, giving you a variety of options to build your dream car. You can head to the tuning section, to swap and fine-tune your car, adjust the suspension and dyno stand, and customize everything from body parts and wheels to windows, interior trim, painting, and livery. You can fine-tune your car with over 80 parts per car, for best performance and experience.
CarX Drift Racing 3 allows you to enjoy drifting sessions on some iconic tracks
Another exciting aspect of the game is the iconic licensed race tracks and touge routes like Ebisu, Nürburgring, ADM Raceway, and Dominion Raceway, from all over the world available in the game, which is a real edition and lets you experience true drift racing experience or car racing experience in general. It also features two other tracks Kami Road and South Port, available in Asia and Oceania region in the game.
You can go for drift sessions or practice your skills in the free-ride mode. At the start, only the Ebisu track is available for free, offering you seven courses to drift and improve your skills. Plus, you can also enjoy drifting in the test drive mode without any restrictions, allowing you to vibe and enjoy.
Stunning graphics and immersive music complement high-level drifting
While the gameplay is top-notch and challenging, the game’s graphics and audio playlist deserve equal praise. The devs have truly given their best to provide us with the best drift racing experience. The graphics are stunning, perfectly capturing the essence of drifting across various tracks, providing a very enjoyable and immersive gameplay experience.
The only issue is it doesn’t run well on low-end devices and even mid-end devices can struggle to maintain a smooth gameplay performance, for which you can lower your graphic configuration, sacrificing the quality.
On top of that, the in-game soundtracks are dope, featuring a total of 10 tracks, some of which you might recognize, providing an awesome experience while you’re drifting your car to its limit. I particularly enjoy the phonk-style, high-energy soundtracks. They blend perfectly with the vibe and drift racing as a whole. Moreover, even the sound effects are next level, from the engine revving sound to the braking and drifting sound, it truly immerses you in the game.
The game features a clean UI with smooth controls for a precise drifting experience
The game features a very simple and easy-to-understand user interface, making it easy to navigate through various features and settings without feeling overcrowded or overwhelmed. Everything is well-organized with a large font size and simple icons. Whether you’re tuning your car, repairing it in the tuning section, or going for a test ride or race, the clean UI provides a seamless experience.
As for the controls, the game offers four control settings, two touch controls, a gyro-tilt control, and support for Bluetooth controllers for a more immersive and responsive experience. For me, the controls were smooth and somewhat realistic, and I liked the response while drifting. However, I found the gyro-tilt controls quite challenging.
You can Race for free but be careful with the tempting IAPs along the way
The game also has an in-game store, where you can purchase various cars, such as the Kyoyo E86 Touge Rush, which is based on the fan-favorite Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86, which was Takumi Fujiwara’s car in the legendary anime Initial D. Apart from cars, you can also buy engines belonging to different categories like Powerful, Legendary, and Top-End Engine, as well as other car parts.
While you can opt to buy these cars and upgrades for better performance, it is not necessary and you can simply grind a lot and enjoy drifting in various modes. You may require to have better cars for Top32 championships or Tandem races, but you can still manage.
Final Verdict
CarX Drift Racing 3 is a very addictive and enjoyable game, though it can be a little hard to learn in the beginning. If you love the drifting scene and car culture, this game is a must-try with next-level graphics, immersive soundtracks, a damage system, and the new XDS rating system, providing the perfect racing and drifting experience.
I especially found the damage system very interesting, which adds a realistic feel when you crash your car, or go off track, and even your tires get damaged over time. You can also repair, and adjust the suspension system and customize your car to your liking with iconic body kits, making the game even more engaging. Overall, CarX Drift Racing 3 is a must-try for car enthusiasts and anyone who wants to know more about drift, offering various iconic JDM cars, drift kits, and race tracks to master drifting.
