Summary
- Black Myth: Wukong has won Player’s Voice award at this year’s Game Awards showcase.
- Black Myth: Wukong managed to pluck the award from Mihoyo fans, as well as Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
The Game Awards have many, many prizes that it dishes out, some a little more important than others. Game of the Year is obviously a big one, but the Player’s Voice award has steadily become just as important to many, seen as the public’s stamp of approval, since it’s a completely player-voted accolade.
Previous winners include massive titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, Genshin Impact, Halo Infinite (it used to be good), and Ghost of Tsushima, and another title was set to be added to that list this year too. A whopping 30 games were nominated in the first round of voting, including heavy hitters like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Black Myth: Wukong, as well as a dozen live service games that didn’t actually launch this year.

Players’ Voice Should Give The Players More Credit
Too many live service games that don’ represent 2024 are clogging up the shortlist.
Most of those games were swiftly voted out, with only ten making the second round, but we also saw the losses of games like Astro Bot, Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth, and Silent Hill 2. What was left was a selection of this year’s best single player games, along with a distressing amount of gacha. Unfortunately, that didn’t change once the final five nominees were revealed.
Just a few days ago, host Geoff Keighley revealed the final four games and one DLC nominated for Player’s Voice. Black Myth: Wukong, Zenless Zone Zero, Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves, and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree were all made finalists, proving once and for all exactly why the public shouldn’t be the deciding factor for Game of the Year.
Black Myth: Wukong Wins Player’s Voice At The Game Awards
Black Myth: Wukong was probably considered the favorite going in, having already earned other player voted awards, and the giant amount of sales it got on launch suggested that it had numbers on its side. It’s also very possible that Mihoyo fans were split between Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero, giving Wukong the win. Congrats Game Science, you officially have the public seal of approval.
