Completing side quests is generally good for fast-tracking your character’s progression in Path of Exile 2. Apart from XP and money, they often give rewards that are hard to find through simple grinding (if at all). Treasures of the Utzaal leads players to a loot-filled ruin that should set players on the path to greater power.
This guide covers everything you need to know about Treasures of the Utzaal, from where to find the Molten Vault to how to beat the big baddie hiding inside it. The latter is going to be a bit difficult though, especially for PoE 2 beginners.

The Trial of Chaos in Path of Exile 2 is very challenging in lower levels, but it becomes much easier once you become stronger.
Where to Find the Molten Vault in PoE 2
The Treasure of Utzaal Quest tasks players with finding the Molten Vault, a supposed treasure trove according to Oswald. You can find this inside the Drowned City in Act 3 — before you can reach it, you’ll first have to drain the water from the base of the Ziggurat Encampment, something you’ll eventually end up doing by simply following the main storyline in Path of Exile 2.
Since maps are randomly generated, the location of the Molten Vault will be different for every player in separate instances. Your best bet at finding it is to hug one edge of the map and explore until you see the entrance. There will be a prompt to summon Oswald in front of the vault, so you’ll know you’re there once you see the little blue portal.
Inside the Molten Vault
The goal here is to clear out the vault, though in reality, what you need to do is to find and kill Mektul the Forgemaster, a boss enemy in the Auroduct portion of the Molten Vault. He’s very hard to miss — look for the giant pool of molten gold with the giant enemy banging at the barrier keeping the gold from spilling out.
The vault has a ton of chests inside, making it a decent place

while fighting level 40+ enemies.
Beating Mektul is going to be difficult if you’re undergeared. No amount of patience and skillful play will win you this battle, as it is essentially one big DPS check. As you’re fighting Mektul, the molten gold will slowly creep toward you, forcing you to retreat while fighting Mektul. The Auroduct is fairly long, but it won’t stretch out forever. If you don’t kill Mektul fast enough, you’ll run out of space, and the molten gold will melt you alive.
Mektul himself is a fairly straightforward boss, but he’s a nightmare for melee characters. The good thing is his attacks are slow and telegraphed, giving you enough time to dodge away. Do your best to chip away at his health while avoiding attacks, and he’ll eventually go down, dropping the Hammer of Kamasa for Oswald.
Lure Mektul out of the flowing lava to deal more damage. If all else fails, come back stronger with more levels and better gear.
