The One Piece story is well into its Final Saga and, eventually, all the pieces are slowly going to start coming together. From the very start of the story, Eiichiro Oda has put little hints and vague lore drops that seem insignificant at the time, but eventually go on to play a huge role and often change the trajectory of the series once they’ve finally been expanded upon.
One such thing that fans of the series have been theorizing about almost endlessly has to do with the Ancient Weapon called Pluton, which was first mentioned way back in the Alabasta arc. Moreover, the prevailing belief regarding this weapon has to do with the shipwright of the Straw Hats; Franky, so let’s go over how he may play one of the most important roles in the Final Saga of One Piece.

Pluton was the first of the mysterious Ancient Weapons to have been mentioned, back in the Alabasta arc. Much like the other weapons, Poseidon and Uranus, Pluton is named after a mythical godlike figure and is said to be an incredibly powerful battleship that can destroy an entire island with a single blast. Sometime during the Void Century, the legendary shipwrights of Water 7 created this machine, presumably for the Ancient Kingdom.
“Pluton”. It’s said a single blast from it can destroy an entire island without leaving a trace.
Franky himself ties into the existence of this ship. This is because when the ship was originally made all those centuries ago, the shipwrights knew of its power and acknowledged the fact that if it fell into the wrong hands, it would mean the doom of the world. So, to prevent this from happening, they safeguarded the blueprints of the ship and passed them down to the greatest shipwrights of Water 7 through the generations, so that if the original ship, which is currently under Mt. Fuji in Wano, were ever to reawaken, another could be made to contest it. Franky was the last person to own and view these blueprints.

How Franky Will Create Another Pluton
The Final Form of the Thousand Sunny
Since Franky held onto the Pluton blueprints and studied them thoroughly before destroying them to prevent CP9, and consequently the World Government, from getting their hands on them, he holds the knowledge to create the deadly weapon from scratch. Due to this, the theory states that in the Final War, Franky will use this knowledge to upgrade the Thousand Sunny to its strongest form, as a means of standing up to Pluton when it inevitably awakens from its long slumber.
As for how this may happen, it remains a point of speculation. One theory states that Kaido and Big Mom aren’t dead and, as a result of being shot down to the base of Wano’s Mt. Fuji after their battles with Luffy, Law, and Kidd, they are currently right next to Pluton itself. In the Final War, it’s possible for these two Emperors of the Sea to make their long-speculated return to the series, but this time, atop the immeasurably powerful Pluton battleship.
Conversely, another theory states that the World Government could also get their own version of Pluton made by capturing Iceberg from Water 7. This is because Iceberg held the Pluton blueprints for 4 years after Tom’s death, meaning that, over this time, he also very likely memorized them. If, somehow, the World Government found this out, they could have kidnapped him and forced him to make the ship, which could prompt Franky even more to make a counter to it.
Although the Thousand Sunny is more of Franky’s own invention rather than a copy of Pluton, it’s quite likely that if the time comes for the ship to have sufficient power, Franky will use his knowledge of Pluton to upgrade the Sunny to a huge extent, making it the perfect counter to the Ancient Weapon. By doing this, the story arc of both Franky and the Thousand Sunny itself will come full circle brilliantly and both would be made super relevant in the Final Arc.
