The Witcher 4 Is Already Getting Called Woke Because Of Ciri

Summary

  • The Witcher 4 was finally revealed at The Game Awards, confirming that Ciri is the protagonist.
  • Most seem to be pleased with this, but others take issue with the game having a female lead.
  • Then, there are those who are immediately jumping to call Ciri ugly, for some reason.

The Witcher 4 was finally revealed last night, more than two years since the sequel was first teased. As most of us expected, Ciri is taking the lead this time, and we’ll be playing as her in the latest instalment.

However, because certain corners of social media are stuck in a constant loop of outrage, the knee-jerk reaction to this has been to label the game as woke, seemingly only because we’re playing as a woman this time. Some are also arguing that Ciri is unattractive now, which would seem to be a deal breaker for them if true.

Ciri Is The Protagonist In The Witcher 4

Usual suspects are having a normal one

While the response to Ciri in the trailer appears to be largely positive, you don’t have to look far to find tweets like the one above, commenting negatively on Ciri’s physical appearance. Many noticed this in the live chat when the trailer was being debuted at The Game Award last night too.

If you were otherwise having a good day, you might want to avoid the recent comments made on the YouTube upload of the trailer. These include useful commentary such as:

  • “Bet they turned Woke meter to 100%. main character is a woman who is a lesbian non binary helicopter [sic].”
  • “So this is another gender swap game, yuckk.”
  • “Woke uglification of women hit Ciri hard.”

Right now, a good amount of people are dunking on these takes. It does also seem that most are happy to be playing as Ciri now after she proved to be a fan favourite character in The Witcher 3.

The Witcher 4 doesn’t currently have a release date, but it has entered full production. We’ll have to wait and see when we can get our hands on this new chapter in The Witcher series.
