If you’ve got a hankering for more Mafia, then 2025 is the year for you. As revealed during Thursday night’s The Game Awards presentation, Mafia: The Old Country will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles in Summer 2025, meaning it won’t be too long before fans will be able to dive back into the Mafia world.
In a 1:30-long trailer unveiled on stage, Mafia: The Old Country takes its namesake literally. Whereas previous Mafia titles took place in the 1930s, 40s and 60s, respectively, The Old Country is going old school with an early 1900s time frame.
That much was evident during the trailer, as there aren’t a ton of vehicles or advanced weaponry, along with the general lack of traditional technology that simply did not exist back then. More than anything, while previous Mafia titles took place in fictionalized locales in Chicago, New York and a twist on New Orleans, The Old Country will actually take place in Italy, owing to its namesake.
The trailer was rather light on gameplay elements, though it went heavy on the story beats. When The Old Country does launch, it will seemingly tell the tale of Enzo Favara, with players “uncovering the origins of organized crime.”
As the trailer’s name implies, Enzo is taking the Oath of Omertà — the centralized code of all organized crime, a pledge to remain silent and put the family above all. With all the Mafia games connecting to each other, it’ll be interesting to see how Enzo leads into Vito and Tommy Angelo.
Mafia Has Had A Resurgence
It represents the first mainline Mafia title since 2016’s Mafia 3, and the first Mafia title overall since the 2020 Definitive Edition take on the original Mafia. It also represents another highly-anticipated game from Take-Two Interactive. Already, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6 has been confirmed for a Fall 2025 release date, while Gearbox’s Borderlands 4 has been given a broader 2025 window.
Thursday’s trailer was one of several that headlined the annual year-end gaming event. Elsewhere, Onimusha was revealed to be revived, with a brand-new trailer to boot. There was also news of a new Sonic racing game, along with the introduction of Clive to the Tekken 8 roster.
