A brand-new trailer for Dying Light: The Beast just debuted at The Game Awards 2024 and confirmed that it’s set to release at some point in Summer 2025.
Considering how long we waited for Dying Light 2’s release in 2022 from the first game’s surprise success all the way back in 2015, it was a bit surprising to see that Techland already has something new for us from the series. That new thing is Dying Light: The Beast, a standalone adventure starring the first game’s protagonist, Kyle Crane, as he struggles with a new beastly power.

Dying Light: The Beast’s Biggest New Feature Disappointed Me
The new chapter in the Dying Light series shows everything we love about it, but its new trick raises some questions.
Dying Light: The Beast was one of the most surprising announcements at Gamescom earlier this year, but we haven’t seen all that much from the game since then. That just changed at The Game Awards 2024 as, just like Techland promised in the days leading up to the event, a brand-new trailer was shown.
Dying Light: The Beast
The new trailer for Dying Light: The Beast mostly focused on showing what happened to Kyle Crane as he was experimented on for more than a decade. We then got to see a closer glimpse of the gameplay, which is pretty much what you’d expect from Dying Light. That is to say, plenty of zombies, parkour, and a focus on melee combat over guns.
Considering the only thing we’ve seen so far of Dying Light: The Beast is a brief trailer that was more focused on introducing the sequel with CG footage and a brief bit of gameplay at the end, this new trailer is the best look we’ve had at The Beast so far. As you’d expect, it’s very much like the other Dying Light games, with plenty of parkour and zombies to kill, but with the addition of a new state for Kyle.
While full gameplay of The Beast has only just been shown to us all through The Game Awards, previews were actually shown during Gamescom earlier this year, with our own Editor Axel Bosso getting to see a hands-off demo. Axel said that the core tenants of Dying Light were all accounted for and looking better than ever, but that the Beast transformation seemed a little dull for a core concept. Let’s hope that changes.
