Superman Trailer Release Date Update Provided by a New Rumor

Summary

  • The highly anticipated Superman movie trailer is reportedly set for release next week with a press event on December 15.
  • Rumors of Warner Bros. concerns about the trailer were debunked by James Gunn.
  • The scheduled movie release date for Superman is July 11, 2025, marking a significant milestone for DC Universe fans.

The new Superman movie trailer is highly anticipated, as it will offer fans their first glimpse at the DC Universe’s (DCU) debut feature film. After some concerns that it might not premiere this month, a recent update provides more encouraging news.

James Gunn’s Superman is considered the ‘true’ start of the DCU. While the animated series Creature Commandos is the first DCU project released, that show has been described as a “soft intro” to the new DC franchise. As the first feature film in Gunn’s new DCU, Superman has much riding on it. Fans who loved or didn’t like the defunct DCEU (or Snyderverse) want to see how Gunn’s Superman compares and Warner Bros. undoubtedly wants a box office success after a string of DC movie flops. The new Superman trailer was rumored to be released during the holiday season, giving fans a better sense of what to expect, and that is seemingly still the plan.

One Former DC Actor Had Zero Interest In Returning for James Gunn’s DCU

A former DC actor had a hilarious response when James Gunn reached out after being appointed the creative mastermind of the new DCU franchise.

In a recent episode of The Hot Mic with John Rocha and Jeff Sneider, the latter noted that there will be a press event for the new Superman trailer on Monday, December 15. The new Superman trailer will be released to the public later that week. Puck also reported on the Superman trailer debuting next week, adding that Krypto the Superdog might be the standout character from the preview.

This lines up with reports claiming the Superman trailer release date was set for December 19 to screen ahead of Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King. However, there have been reasons for concern since those reports dropped. Firstly, there were rumors that the first cut of the Superman trailer worried Warner Bros. executives, prompting them to demand Gunn recut the preview. Some fans believed this would explain why the Superman trailer hasn’t been released yet despite Gunn saying he had the preview on his hard drive. While Gunn admitted the Superman trailer still needed work, he debunked the claim that Warner Bros. was unhappy with it. Gunn explained that only DC Studios (i.e. he and Peter Safran) are involved in cutting the trailer and that pushing the marketing team for the perfect preview is something he went through with each Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Secondly, Gunn caused doubts about the Superman trailer being released in December after responding to a Threads user who asked if the preview was still premiering in December by writing, “Still?” This caused some fans to wonder if the Superman trailer was ever intended to premiere during the 2025 holiday season.

However, if Sneider and Puck are correct, the Superman trailer is slated to premiere in the coming week as previously suggested. This is the perfect time, as Mufasa: The Lion King and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will play over the Christmas break, meaning the Superman trailer can be screened in front of both films and reach a wide audience. How fans and general moviegoers will react remains to be seen.

Superman is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
