A new game from Shadow of the Colossus and Ico creator Fumito Ueda has been teased at The Game Awards, though the game is currently untitled. The short preview showed a helmeted character climbing to the top of a large mech as an electronic voice counts down an impending threat. The game is developed by Ueda’s studio GenDesign, and published by Epic Games.
The trailer shows its protagonist, kitted out with a gun, helmet, and poncho, climbing up a huge mech in a sequence that immediately calls back to Ueda’s classic Shadow of the Colossus. Once at the top, the character climbs into the mech’s head, which separates from the body to rise above an incoming shockwave approaching. From this teaser, the escape doesn’t appear too successful, but we will have to wait to see more from this currently untitled project.
This will be studio GenDesign’s second project, after it debuted with The Last Guardian in 2016, and its first in collaboration with Epic Games Publishing. The partnership has been in the works for a while, and according to a statement from Epic early last year, the untitled new project is set to be an Epic Games Store exclusive for “a long time.”
With no title and very little details to speak of, it’s not surprising the game doesn’t have anything resembling a release window yet either. It’s yet to be seen whether the game is intended for a console release alongside its release on the Epic Games Store.
