The Whispered World Features a Beautiful Art Style
Two of the standout elements of The Whispered World’s 2D setting are the game’s hand-painted backgrounds and hand-drawn animations, which helped it earn the “Best German Game of the Year” award at the German Game Developer Awards in 2009. The emotional and unique narrative also earned it the “Best Story” award from the same publication. The Whispered World is sitting at a comfortable 70 on Metacritic and has an overall Mostly Positive user rating on Steam, which is currently has the game on sale for those who prefer to play on that platform.
The game was so well received that it received a sequel in 2016 called Silence, which many gamers may be more familiar with. It brings players back to the fantasy dream world introduced in the previous game but introduces new characters Noah and Renie. Sadwick’s pet caterpillar Spot makes a reappearance to help the two protagonists make their way through the game’s war-torn world.
Fans of free games should also turn their attention to Epic Games Store’s current mystery game giveaway spree, which will see 16 exciting titles at no cost from December 12 to January 9. The first game on offer is The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria by Free Range Games, another fantastical adventure that will pull players into a realm of fantasy, though this one may be a little more familiar than that of The Whispered World.
