Payday Creator Shows Off New Co-Op Game Den of Wolves

10 Chambers has revealed some new gameplay footage from Den of Wolves, its upcoming sci-fi heist game. This new look at Den of Wolves was shared during the 2024 edition of The Game Awards.

10 Chambers is a Stockholm, Sweden-based studio founded by Ulf Andersson, the creator of the first two Payday games. Founded in 2015, the company released its first title six years later, debuting it in the form of co-op horror shooter GTFO. In December 2023, 10 Chambers took to The Game Awards to announce its next project, a sci-fi heist game Den of Wolves.

A year later, the developer once again appeared at one of Geoff Keighley’s shows, taking to The Game Awards 2024 to share a fresh gameplay trailer for Den of Wolves. The 90-second video serves as an introduction to the game’s setting, Midway City, a corporate haven located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The trailer’s narrator describes this cyberpunk metropolis as a “land of opportunity” where players will be able to get rich or die trying. Following that brief introduction, the new Den of Wolves trailer erupts into pure chaos, showing an erratic sequence of glimpses at action-packed gameplay involving massive shootouts, environmental destruction, and daring escapes.

Den of Wolves TGA 2024 Trailer Song Ties Into the Game’s Themes

All of this is happening to the tune of a remixed version of Takeover, a bouncy EDM track by Northern California-based producer ECKA and British vocalist Nat James. While 10 Chambers might have opted for this song simply because its immense energy matches the chaotic nature of the new Den of Wolves trailer, its lyrics also seem to at least partially align with the rebellious themes permeating the upcoming game. “Stand my ground when I stare them down and they can’t control us, burn up the system right, let the people rise for the real takeover,” Nat James sings in Takeover. By all accounts, Den of Wolves will give players plenty of opportunities to burn down the system through sabotage, assassinations, and other disorderly activities.

Den of Wolves Is Still Without an Official Release Window

The TGA 2024 trailer ends with a tagline saying “early access 202…” In a prepared statement shared after the new promo video premiered, 10 Chambers Communications Director Robin Björkell said that Den of Wolves will launch in Steam Early Access whenever it’s ready to do so. “The cryptic release date in the trailer is our homage to classic FPS games where developers were bold about releasing when ready,” Björkell explained.

The sci-fi heist game has so far only been confirmed for PC. The first 10 Chambers title, GTFO, never made its way to any other platform, so Den of Wolves could also plausibly remain a PC exclusive post-release.
