2024 was an incredibly busy year for Nintendo Switch Online, with some recent data showing that the year saw the highest number of games having been added to the subscription service. Subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online get access to a wide variety of retro games from across Nintendo’s library, including the NES, SNES, and Game Boy platforms for the base version, with even more games being accessible for those who upgrade to the Expansion Pack tier. This tier gives subscribers access to games from the Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, and even Sega Genesis libraries, giving players access to over 100 different games to play.
In 2024, Nintendo added loads of retro games to this service across all platforms and tiers. Some of the long-requested titles that were added to the service included Banjo-Tooie, two classic F-Zero Game Boy Advance games, and more recently, the entire Donkey Kong Land trilogy. So many different titles were added to the service in such a short amount of time, almost on a monthly basis, making for an incredibly solid lineup and service that officially hosts Nintendo’s classic games. A recent data analysis shows that 2024 was indeed the one that saw the most games added to the North American version of the app.

According to SmashToons on Bluesky, he has been keeping track of the amount of games that have been added to the Nintendo Switch Online service. He recently posted an updated version of the chart, following the addition of the NES and Game Boy versions of Tetris DX on the NSO service. With the addition of Tetris DX, 2024 has officially seen more games added to the North American NSO app than any other year of the service, surpassing the last record holder of 2023.

According to the chart, 56 games in total were added to the Nintendo Switch Online service in 2024, narrowly surpassing the 55 games added to the service in 2023. The chart also lays out how many and which games were added per month by platform too. As of December 12, 2024, the current Nintendo Switch Online library holds a total of 286 games in the North American version of the app, discounting any SP versions of certain titles.
It’s been confirmed that the next Nintendo console will continue using the NSO service, including backwards compatible access to the classic game library. As such, players will still be able to access this extensive backlog of games, even after Nintendo moves on to the Switch’s successor. This includes classic games from the Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kirby, and Super Mario franchises.
