A new Ninja Gaiden game, subtitled Ragebound, has been announced at The Game Awards. It’s a classic side-scrolling action game, developed by Blasphemous studio The Game Kitchen in partnership with Koei Tecmo. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound will be published by Dotemu, and is planned for a Summer 2025 release.
Ragebound will be the first new game in the Ninja Gaiden series in over a decade, with the game’s Steam page calling it a “new twist” on the classic series. “Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound successfully unites the classic lore and gameplay of the Tecmo-developed Ninja Gaiden series from the 8-bit era with the depth and intensity of the modern 3D entries,” the description reads.
As seen in the trailer debuted at The Game Awards, long-time Ninja Gaiden protagonist Ryu Hayabusa will be involved in the new title, but a new character known as Kenji Mozu will be taking his place as the main character. After Ryu leaves for America, Kenji has to step up to tackle the horde of demons that has been unleashed upon Hayabusa Village.
Ragebound promises nuanced side-scrolling action mixed with lush pixel art–something The Game Kitchen has already proved it can do with the critically acclaimed Blasphemous and Blasphemous 2. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound will be released for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC in Summer 2025.
