KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! fans got a new season this year, and they will now have a two-episode OVA to look forward to in 2025! After KonoSuba‘s third season finally came out this year, fans have been expecting for news on future productions.
KonoSuba is originally a light novel series published online, and later acquired by Kadokawa. The story was penned by Natsume Akatsuki, who would later write Combatants Will Be Dispatched! and Kemono Michi. It is maybe one of the first isekai anime adaptations before the genre started trending in Japan and internationally.

KonoSuba Season 3 Ending, Explained
Season 3 of KonoSuba shows Kazuma and his crew facing new challenges, while promising and hinting at exciting future adventures.
Kadokawa had previously announced that an OVA was in production, with no further information. Now they revealed it is a two-episode OVA, scheduled to debut in Japanese theaters on March 14, 2025. It will be later launched in home video formats (DVD/Blu-ray Disc), on April 25.
More Information About The Release
The OVA is marketed as part of the third season, although it will likely include stories that work fine as standalone chapters (it is titled Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o! 3 -Bonus Stage-). The episodes are titled “Red Stream Explosion“ and “Nisemono Chui”. The BD/DVD version will have bonus extras, including an original text story from the creator.
The theatrical release will be a limited one, running for only two weeks in Japan. No international release was confirmed so far, but it seems likely this OVA will eventually stream on Crunchyroll, since they have already licensed the series. If it does hit international streaming, it will probably be on the same day or sometime after the home video release in Japan.
KonoSuba New OVA Staff
According to ANN, the episodes feature a returning cast and staff, but they didn’t provide any names. KonoSuba had a few staff changes in season 3, but it’s likely Takaomi Kanasaki will be back as chief director (he was director on seasons 1 & 2 and chief director on season 3) and Yujiro Abe will be the series director. Makoto Uezu was the head writer in all seasons.
The series also changed studios for the third season. Studio DEEN animated seasons 1 & 2 (2016-2017) and studio Drive got in charge of the series for the latest season (2024), and also for the An Explosion on This Wonderful World! spin-off series (2023). The Legend of Crimson movie (2019) was animated by J.C. Staff. Production difficulties were probably the reason it took so long between the second and third seasons’ release.
Since the novel was not yet fully adapted into animation, it is possible they will announce a sequel (a new season or a movie) near the premiere of the new OVA episodes.
KonoSuba

Based on Natsume Akatsuki’s novel and light novel series, KonoSuba parodies the isekai genre by following a party of “heroes” who are the definition of dysfunctional.
