After introducing Knuckles and Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the third movie will bring in the big guns, aka Shadow the Hedgehog. Reeves was a top fan cast for the character and was confirmed to be joining the cast earlier in 2024. Clips and trailers of the new antihero’s debut in the Sonic film have won fans over. Shadow Appears in New Sonic the Hedgehog Short
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is one of the last video game adaptations to release this year, and as the film’s release date falls amid the holiday season, Paramount Pictures has released a special Christmas-themed short on YouTube. The film, titled A Very Sonic Christmas, features a stop-motion animation style, with Sonic teaching Knuckles and Tails about how the festive season runs on Earth.
When Sonic reveals that Santa’s magic makes him almost as fast as him, the trio decides to find out how the Christmas icon does it. Sonic uses a golden ring to portal Santa to their location, but he hurts his ankle in the process putting the delivery of Christmas presents in jeopardy. This leaves Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles to deliver presents to children around the world on Christmas night. Reeves comes into the story when Sonic brings Santa back to the North Pole, only to find Shadow stealing his sleigh on his motorbike. “You chose the wrong hedgehog, he can’t even teleport,” Shadow says. “I feel like this guy’s gonna be a problem,” Sonic says, in a precursor to their conflict in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The short ends on a hilarious note, with Santa seen eating a chili dog at Sonic’s house, only to spill mustard on a pillow, which he awkwardly hides.
Excitement Is High For Sonic the Hedgehog 3
The short film features many of the voice actors from the Sonic movies reprising their roles, including Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Reeves as Shadow, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, and Idris Elba as Knuckles. In a surprise twist, Adam Pally, who appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies and Knuckles as Wade Whipple, provides the voice of Santa. The short film is a clever marketing tool pointing fans towards the upcoming release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, particularly as it displays the film’s charm, humor, and the dynamic between its major anthropomorphic characters.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is just over a week away from release, but anticipation is at an all-time high following promising reviews of the third movie. Sonic 3 is expected to have a short runtime but may set up the future of the franchise, with the film said to have multiple post-credits sequences. Another thing the end of the film will need to determine is whether Shadow the Hedgehog becomes a recurring character like Knuckles and Tails did after Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be released in theaters on December 20.
