It was revealed at The Game Awards that the Helldivers have an all-new foe to fight, and some fancy new vehicles to fight them in. That wasn’t the only big Helldivers 2 announcement on Thursday night. The brave soldiers fighting for Super Earth’s freedom are also getting their own DualSense controller, and you won’t have to wait long to place your pre-orders.
It was rumored last month that Helldivers 2 would be getting its own DualSense controller sometime soon, and since nothing became of the December 3 date many thought would play host to a PlayStation showcase, all eyes were on The Game Awards for its reveal. Since the awards show was used to reveal the Illuminate have finally arrived on Super Earth, as have the Helldivers vehicles, the accompanying DualSense reveal was saved for the PlayStation Blog.

The is probably the Helldiver in me talking, but the upcoming controller might be the best design for the DualSense to date, and that’s coming from someone who managed to bag one of the Astro Bot controllers. The controller is black with yellow and grey accents on its grips and a Helldivers skull logo in the middle of the touchpad.

It’s the finer details that make this one of the best DualSense controllers so far in a year where there have been quite a few already dedicated to certain games. The reveal video for the controller showcasing what it looks like up close shows that it has tiny instructions written on the controller highlighting what some of the buttons do. “WPN RLD” next to the square button, for example, and “STRTGM” under L1. Now new Helldivers will be able to blow you to bits accidentally at a record pace.
As for when you’ll be able to buy a Helldivers 2 DualSense to call your own, pre-orders for the controller will go live at PlayStation Direct on December 20, 2024, so only a week to wait. The design hasn’t been added to Direct’s DualSense page yet, but you’ll be able to place your pre-order for the controller through the link in the box below once they do.

PlayStation has given its DualSense controllers a taste of freedom. Helldivers 2 now has its own design with a black and yellow color scheme and pointers throughout to let new players know what some of the controls are.
The controllers will ship on February 6, 2025, and cost $84.99 each. Slightly more expensive than a regular DualSense, but $85 appears to be the standard now for DualSense controllers themed after specific games now. The reveal of the Helldivers 2 DualSense caps off a busy year for new PlayStation controller designs as it joins the Astro and Concord controllers released over the summer, a PS1 grey 30th anniversary controller, and the new Chroma collection which includes three color options.
