The Game Awards ceremony has grown massively in prominence in the years since it first premiered back in 2014. Once a relatively minor spectacle spun off from the Spike TV Video Game Awards, The Game Awards are now one of the biggest mainstream games industry marketing events. The show’s status as a major showcase for the latest upcoming games has only grown further in the wake of large trade shows like E3 officially dying. Industry professionals, mainstream commentators, celebrities, and ordinary players alike tune in each year both to see which releases get honored, and to get hyped up for new announcements and premieres.

Now people interested in The Game Awards know to put December 11, 2025 on their calendars, thanks to Geoff Keighley’s closing commentary. In his announcement, Keighley thanked the Game Awards production staff as well as the development teams and publishers that chose to air their Game Awards reveals during the ceremony.
The Game Awards 2025 Will Return to The Peacock Theater
Geoff Keighley also confirmed that the next Game Awards show would once again take place at the same venue as this year: the Peacock Theater, located in Los Angeles, California. The Peacock Theater has hosted The Game Awards since 2023, when Baldur’s Gate 3 won Game of the Year, as well as several other categories. Most previous Game Awards ceremonies were held in Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater, except for the very first Game Awards broadcast, which was held in Las Vegas. The 2020 ceremony did not have a large in-person presence and was held virtually due to safety concerns and restrictions on international travel brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thanks both to the practice of honoring current releases and hosting surprise reveals like a new original title from The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog and a sequel to The Witcher 3, this year’s Game Awards has only helped further cement the event as one of the things to watch for new game announcements. In fact, the only other major event to rival the Game Awards as a nexus of hype is the Summer Game Fest, a multi-day annual trade event that also happens to be organized by Geoff Keighley.
