From Software’s follow-up to Elden Ring wasn’t expected for a while considering that Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is still relatively new, so it was admittedly quite a big surprise when the new spin-off title, Elden Ring: Nightreign, was revealed at The Game Awards 2024. Based on the reveal trailer, Elden Ring: Nightreign will take place in a familiar setting, except with some interesting new twists compared to the original game.
The upcoming Elden Ring spin-off game is finally delivering one of the Souls game community’s most highly requested features: a seamless co-op experience. The new reveal trailer for Elden Ring: Nightreign shows off players teaming up to take on a variety of returning enemies, some of which are returning enemies from Elden Ring, though there are also a few recognizable bosses from past Souls games that longtime fans may recognize.

Every Returning Elden Ring Enemy Revealed for Elden Ring: Nightreign So Far
- Exile Soldiers (appears at 1:22)
- Soldiers of Godrick (appears at 1:26)
- Banished Knights (appears at 1:31)
- Knights of Zamor (appears at 1:35)
- Omen (appears at 2:16)
Elden Ring: Nightreign’s Enemy Variety Includes Major Bosses and Common Minions
Exile Soldiers are commonly found in Elden Ring’s Stormveil Castle legacy dungeon, although they can also be encountered in certain late-game areas on occasion. The Soldier of Godrick enemy is a tutorial boss in Elden Ring who becomes a common encounter throughout the entirety of the base game, except wearing differently colored armor depending on the region that players encounter them in. While Elden Ring: Nightreign’s co-op focus surely means that players will encounter a variety of epic boss fights, the presence of lesser enemies like Soldiers of Godrick and Exile Soldiers shows that this spin-off will be far more than just a boss rush.
As for Banished Knights, despite not being a dedicated boss, these are often considered one of the hardest non-boss enemies in Elden Ring due to their surprising speed, power, and reach. Among all the common minions, major enemies, and iconic bosses that players will likely encounter in Elden Ring Nightreign, the variety of foes shown off is already quite diverse.
In addition to enemies from
Elden Ring
making a return appearance in
Elden Ring: Nightreign
, the reveal trailer also briefly features famous bosses from From Software’s past Souls games, such as the Nameless King from
Dark Souls 3
and the Centipede Demon from
Dark Souls
, among others.
Elden Ring: Nightreign Could Shine New Light on Mysterious Characters and Enemies from Elden Ring
The Knights of Zamor are a rather rare encounter since they only appear in one location throughout the original Elden Ring. Because of their rarity, many mysteries remain concerning the Knights of Zamor’s involvement in Elden Ring’s lore surrounding the Fire Giants, so the spin-off is seemingly setting itself up to finally deliver answers to some of these unanswered questions from Elden Ring. This likely extends to some of the returning enemies and characters featured in FromSoftware’s past Souls games before Elden Ring as well, as their appearances in Elden Ring: Nightreign could provide new insights into many longstanding mysteries.
While reusing enemies is often a topic of criticism, Elden Ring: Nightreign is shaping up to be a beautiful homage to some of FromSoftware’s most iconic bosses from past Souls games. Especially with the new co-op dynamics and other modern gameplay improvements that the spin-off will bring to the table, these once-familiar fights will surely be a fresh experience for both new and longtime fans of the famous Souls games.
