From Software has confirmed that Elden Ring: Nightreign will not have cross-play. However, players in the same family of systems will be able to play with each other across generations.
In an interview with IGN, director Junya Ishizaki said, “Similar to the original Elden Ring, there will be cross-generational play but not cross-platform play. So PS4 players can play with PS5 players, and Xbox One players can play with Xbox Series S and X players, but not between platforms.”
Given the game’s multiplayer and co-op focus, it’s a bummer that cross-play isn’t supported. Elden Ring operated similarly, where PlayStation and Xbox players could only summon help from others within their respective family of consoles.
Elden Ring: Nightreign is a co-op action game set in the Elden Ring universe, and From Software is not billing it as a “live-service game.” The developer wanted the game to feel like a complete purchase right out of the box, so everything within the game can be unlocked through normal play. It’s set to launch sometime in 2025 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Elden Ring: Nightreign was announced at The Game Awards 2024, and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree was a nominee in several categories, including the coveted Game of the Year category. However, it didn’t win any awards.
