Elden Ring Nightreign Network Test Announced

Summary

  • Elden Ring Nightreign will have a network playtest ahead of launch, allowing selected players access to the new adventure early.
  • Nightreign is described as a standalone co-op adventure within the Elden Ring world, reimagining the original game’s design.
  • Bandai Namco confirms Nightreign as an online-intensive game, with up to three players taking on “the creeping night.”

Hot off the heels of its unexpected announcement at this year’s Game Awards show, Bandai Namco has confirmed Elden Ring Nightreign will be getting a network playtest, and it’s coming sooner than fans may have thought. Select players will be able to sign up for the Elden Ring Nightreign playtest as early as next month, with registration opening in January.

Released back in 2022, few games seem to be able to stay on top of the video game industry quite like Elden Ring, with the now-revered action RPG making waves at last night’s Game Awards. Elden Ring released its highly anticipated DLC expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, this summer. This expansion allowed fans to become even more engrossed in the Lands Between and more, featuring new items to collect, weapons to use, and bosses to slay. However, a lot of fans may have been left wondering what was next for the game, with developers stating an Elden Ring sequel wasn’t on the table. Now fans know, with Elden Ring Nightreign officially unveiled.

Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco confirmed on its official Twitter account that Nightreign will be getting a network test. Registration for the test will open on January 10. Bandai Namco states that selected players will get to play a portion of the brand-new Elden Ring adventure prior to its release date later next year. This test will help Bandai Namco and developer FromSoftware monitor technical aspects of the upcoming title, with Elden Ring Nightreign set to be one of the studio’s most online-intensive games.

Playtest Announced for Elden Ring Nightreign

Not a whole lot is known about Elden Ring Nightreign other than that it will be another adventure set in the epic world of Elden Ring, only this time leaning heavily into co-op play. According to Bandai Namco, Nightreign is a “standalone adventure within the Elden Ring universe.” The upcoming game is designed to offer players a fresh and new experience by “reimagining” the base design of the original Elden Ring. Co-op has always been a core feature of FromSoftware titles, but Nightreign seeks to make an online play with others integral to the game itself, letting up to three players take on “the creeping night.”

As stated earlier, Elden Ring was still at the forefront of many gamers’ minds, not only due to the game’s wildly successful Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, which was one of the Game of the Year nominees at this year’s Game Awards show, but also due to just how richly detailed and varied the world of the base game truly is. Elden Ring is a massive experience, one that FromSofwtare seems to be happy to expand on. Elden Ring Nightreign releases sometime in 2025, an already-crowded year for the video game industry at large.
