If you’re one of the many who’s been playing Baldur’s Gate 3 constantly over the last year, a DnD-inspired rival is coming in 2025 to challenge for your time. Solasta 2 is a massive, dice-heavy RPG that offers a bigger world and more strategic depth than its predecessor, all wrapped in familiar systems to those who know the Forgotten Realms.
Solasta 2 capitalizes on the strengths of the first tactical RPG, further emphasizing the exploration and combat that allowed that fantasy game to flourish. Set decades later, the upcoming PC game challenges you to pick and grow a party strong enough to take on Shadwyn, an evil entity who wants to destroy the region of Neokos.
As you might imagine, doing so involves gathering your wits, some potions, and a few weapons and spells, and heading out into the realm, facing any dungeons or caverns you find along the way. But you need to be a savvy negotiator too, as the political landscape is shifting amid the oncoming disaster.
It’s all part of what makes a solid DnD game, and developer Tactical Adventures knows their way around the requisite systems and lore. The first release, Solasta: Crown of the Magister, was the result of a successful Kickstarted before coming out in 2021, garnering praise from tabletop aficionados ever since.
Solasta 2 is more of the same, but more ambitious, confident, and deeper on the mythology and emergent storytelling. It’s a co-op game, allowing up to four players to form a party, so this could be a sidequest on for your regular roleplay sessions, or it could replace them altogether until you sort out Shadwyn.
Solasta 2 arrives on Steam Early Access in 2025, with a demo coming earlier in the year. For more braintesting gameplay, have a look at the best strategy games, and the best roguelike games can give you plenty of healthy challenges.
