With the holiday break approaching, Bungie teases upcoming exotic changes coming to Destiny 2 in January alongside the start of Act 3. Act 2 has entered its slow period, giving Destiny 2 players a chance to catch up on content or acquire specific types of loot before Act 3 arrives on January 7.
To help with the downtime, Bungie has also released the annual Dawning event in Destiny 2. While the majority of the event remains the same as it has for years, acquiring ingredients and baking cookies for NPCs, this year adds in a community challenge, a new Void linear fusion rifle, and a dragon-inspired armor set. With that going on and the holidays rapidly approaching, Bungie decided to set fan expectations leading into the new year.

In the final blog post of 2024, Bungie laid out plans for what fans can expect for the rest of this year and the start of January. During a previous Destiny 2 event, Bungie announced it wouldn’t be hosting an Act 3 livestream due to the holiday vacation. This week’s blog post did provide a few details, including important dates like the Iron Banner’s final return on January 14, a new Dungeon going live on February 7, as well as Episode Revenant Act 3 launching on January 7 at reset.
Destiny 2 Act 3 Exotic Gear Changes
For many fans, the big news came further down as Bungie revealed a few details about a new update set to arrive on January 14. While specific weapon archetypes and weapon perks are getting tweaked, Bungie is also highlighting 3 specific exotic items getting changed as well. The Stoicism exotic class item is getting a bug fixed for Spirit of Alpha Lupi, and the Malfeasance hand cannon is getting a boost as it was previously missing intrinsic effects from the Precision Hand Cannon perk. However, the Graviton Lance exotic pulse rifle is getting nerfed as Bungie indicated it is dominating lower and middle skill lobbies. To counter this, Graviton Lance is getting its RPM reduced back to 300, as it was prior to the Act 2 update.
It’s likely that this will be the first major update Destiny 2 sees following the holiday break, with the most recent patch finally addressing an annoying bug. Recently, players discovered a frustrating bug related to Tomb of Elders tonics, boosting the wrong weapon drop rates. While bugs and issues have been prevalent during Episode Revenant, Destiny 2 received a new update that finally resolved this issue.
