Chris Evans Returning To The MCU For Avengers: Doomsday Is A Mistake
Chris Evans being in Avengers: Doomsday is going to be a major mistake for the franchise on the whole.
Audiences have been contemplating who Evans could play in Avengers: Doomsday. They wondered whether he’d be picking up the shield once more to be Captain America again or taking on a completely different role. According to industry insider Jeff Sneider on the latest episode of The Hot Mic, Evans is going to be taking on the role of Nomad. He said, “I’ve heard who the character is. I was having the conversation today, and someone mentioned it, Nomad.”
Nomad is an alternate identity that Steve Rogers uses after abandoning the Captain America outfit and title in the comic books. In that story, Rogers decides that he’s no longer in line with the government and can’t serve his country, leading to him taking on the Nomad persona. It isn’t guaranteed that Marvel Studios will follow that exact story within Avengers: Doomsday, as he could end up taking on a different storyline even as Nomad, but that is set to be the character he takes on.
Rogers hasn’t been seen within the MCU since Avengers: Endgame when he opted to time travel to put all of the time stones back while being able to enjoy a full life alongside Peggy Carter, which he was unable to do in his original life. However, it hasn’t been that long since audiences witnessed Evans within the Marvel world as he put in a cameo performance in Deadpool & Wolverine. In a movie filled with old Marvel characters making returns, Evans portrayed his original superhero character of Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four, although in that timeline, he ended up being killed.
Evans taking on the role of Nomad is an interesting idea and something that could fit the current story rather than forcing him to be brought back via the multiverse. It would allow him to come back as the same person in Rogers, but with a slight twist, which would ensure the new version of Captain America can continue alongside him. This would be drastically different from Downey Jr.’s role, which will be completely different from what he’s done before as he plays Doctor Doom, although there’s no guarantee that Nomad will be a hero within Avengers: Doomsday, as the plot remains under wraps.
