GameSpot’s parent company, Fandom, has released the result of its annual ranking for the top franchises in entertainment, including the top gaming, movie, TV, and overall media franchises out there.
What ranks the highest? Based on Fandom’s proprietary “Franchise Factor Score,” Warhammer was the top overall entertainment franchise in 2024, thanks in part to the interest in and appreciation for the video game Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.
For video games specifically, Space Marine 2 topped the charts, with Terraria, League of Legends, Final Fantasy, and Genshin Impact rounding out the top five.
The Franchise Factor Score is based on weighted measurements of these five criteria: Worldbuilding, High Critical and Fan Ratings, Fierce Fanbase, Cultural Relevance, and Consistency. Fandom extrapolated these results based in part on its network of 350 million monthly unique visitors and 50 million pages of content.
No list is ever perfect or complete, but the Franchise Factor Score aims to illuminate the most popular media franchises out there.
On the movie side, Marvel ranked as the most popular film franchise, thanks to the success of Deadpool & Wolverine. For TV, League of Legends landed at No. 1 due to the Netflix series Arcane.
Read on to see the top 10 gaming franchises of 2024, along with the top film and TV franchises as well.
