It’s been a stellar year for Black Myth: Wukong. Not only was it one of the most anticipated games of the year, but it also lived up to the hype, bagging a nomination for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024. In case you weren’t aware, it already has one GOTY to its name, being crowned Ultimate Game of the Year at The Golden Joystick Awards.
In the acceptance speech for the award, game director Feng Ji said that, “there might just be some surprises waiting for you later this year.” While there’s already word of a story expansion coming in early 2025, fans were wondering what the director was hinting at. With the game’s latest update, we now know what the director was hinting at.
Black Myth: Wukong Gets Keeper’s Shrine Challenges, Journeyer’s Chart, And More
As detailed on Game Science’s website, Wukong has been updated with new gameplay modes in the way of Keeper’s Shrine Challenges. These come in two forms, namely Return of Rivals and Gauntlet of Legends.
Return of Rivals allows the Destined one to take on any boss that he has already defeated. This can be further augmented with three levels of difficulty. Gauntlet of Legends is essentially a horde mode where the Destined one can battle against multiple enemies and use curses to ramp up the difficulty. Again, you’ll have to defeat enemies in the base game to be available here. These enemies may also boast new abilities and attacks.
Completing the gauntlet will get you some unique rewards like Glimmering Scale Pellets and its formula, a number of Drink and Soaks, and three new Curios. You can also earn new equipment like the Three Hill Crown, the Qing Mallet, Fanged Cyan Staff, and Leeching Centipede Staff.
A new game feature called Journeyer’s Chart has also been introduced to the game, where “A remarkable one has captured these landscapes, organizing them into charts for guidance and marking.”
Game Science has also introduced a new armour set as an early Chinese New Year celebration. The Armor Set of Opulence can be claimed by all players in the Trailblazer’s Gift section at any Keeper’s Shrine.
You can also shake your tail to the Headless Monk’s sick tunes via the new Soundtrack Selection feature. All of this comes with loads of bug fixes and improvements.
Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology. You shall set out as the Destined One to venture into the challenges and marvels ahead, to uncover the obscured truth beneath the veil of a glorious legend from the past.
