The Game Awards 2024 are days away, and excitement is at a fever pitch, but just what is set to be announced at the annual award show?
While the Game Awards are supposed to be a celebration of the last year of gaming, highlighting the best and brightest in the world of video games, the truth is most people tune in for the trailers, previews and upcoming game release announcements. Here’s what we know about what to expect at the Game Awards 2024:
Tekken 8 DLC
Bandai Namco is set to unveil the latest DLC for Tekken 8. With almost every character the fighting game has killed off over the past few decades is alive again, we’re excited to see either new fighters, or exceptionally deep pulls for the latest DLC.
Borderlands 4
Fresh off the absolute flop that the Borderlands movie was, the Borderlands franchise looks set to try and rehab its image with a new game trailer. We’re not sure if the game’s humor has aged particularly well, so we’ll see if the new trailer is cringe or an early Christmas miracle.
Mafia: The Old Country
A new trailer for upcoming Mafia open world game The Old Country is set to debut during The Game awards. Developed by Hangarr 13, the game is set to release in 2025, and we expect to get a release date or at least a rough month or season.
Hideo Kojima
Game Awards host Geoff Keighley confirmed that once again Hideo Kojima will be in attendance. While many expect him to purely shill Death Stranding 2, there are indications that Kojima might be formally announcing his upcoming move into the world of film and movies.
Palworld/Pocket Pair
Pocket Pair is reportedly set to announce either a new game or a major update to Palworld, seemingly undaunted by the controversy surrounding their recent lawsuit with Nintendo.
“Two Holy Shit” Announcements
Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier said on Dec. 10 the following:
“There are at least two things that will make you guys react and be like ‘holy shit!, I can’t believe this thing is here!’. At least two things, I’ll say that.”
While it’s pure speculation, and there’s a few things that people think this could be, many are pointing to the likes of Half Life 3, Nintendo Switch 2, and other grandiose suggestions that could fit the bill.
When Do the Game Awards Start?
The Game Awards 2024 are set to start at 4:30 PM PT, 7:30 PM ET on Dec. 12. If you’re in the UK or Europe, that means past midnight or 12:30am Friday (Dec. 13). They’ll be live YouTube in 4k, but also on Twitch, Facebook Live, Tiktok, and Instagram.
