Summary
- Bastion’s A-36 Tactical Grenade in Overwatch 2 now has an actual cube model, a long-awaited upgrade.
- The change was unannounced in the patch notes for Overwatch 2 Season 14, surprising players.
- Despite fans’ mixed opinions on the cube design, all skins currently share the same model.
Overwatch 2 has finally added a unique model to Bastion’s A-36 Tactical Grenade ability. Though the change was not mentioned in any patch notes, the loveable sentry’s alt fire officially has an actual model for the first time since the ability was added in Overwatch 2.
While many Overwatch characters underwent changes to their kits when moving into Overwatch 2, Bastion’s rework was one of the most drastic in the game. The iconic robot lost his Self-Repair, along with his Sentry and Tank configurations, replacing them with the Assault and Artillery configurations, plus the A-36 Tactical Grenade as his new alt-fire in Overwatch 2. However, unlike many other projectiles in the game, the A-36 Tactical Grenade lacked a unique model, instead using a textureless sphere surrounded by explosive VFX.

Now, it seems like Bastion’s Grenade has finally received an actual model. As of Overwatch 2 Season 14, the A-36 Tactical Grenade now appears as a metal cube with six glowing, bright yellow faces on it. This change was not documented in the patch notes for Overwatch 2 Season 14, but is nevertheless live in the game right now.
New A-36 Tactical Grenade Model for Bastion in Overwatch 2
Unfortunately, Bastion’s new model for the A-36 Tactical Grenade is currently the same for all of his skins, and it is not featured in the character’s skin preview like most other characters’ weapons, projectiles, and constructs. It remains to be seen if this will change in the future, similar to how Overwatch 2 gave Orisa’s old Legendary skins unique Energy Javelins in its mid-Season 13 content update.
Fan reception to Bastion’s new Tactical Grenade has been somewhat mixed. Some pointed out that making the projectile a cube was an odd choice, especially since it fires from a round barrel – though they admitted it made as much sense as his cannon changing between a minigun and a rocket launcher. Regardless, nearly everyone was glad to see the featureless ball used since Overwatch 2’s launch over two years ago finally replaced with something with actual textures.
Bastion players have more reasons to celebrate in Season 14. From now through December 20, fans who watch four hours of Overwatch 2 on Twitch can unlock the Legendary Fire Engine Bastion skin, along with the Ganymede spray, for free. As a Legendary skin, Fire Engine Bastion would theoretically be one of the first to get a unique Tactical Grenade model, so players who get this skin for free now might get to enjoy this change if it ever comes in the future.
