No Man’s Sky like survival game Astrometica launches to positive Steam response

In space, no one can hear you scream. Or scavenge for supplies. Or potter around in your ship looking for something worthwhile in an asteroid field. Astrometica gives the exploration of No Man’s Sly a chilling edge, and it’s available right now.

There are a lot of survival games out there, and plenty of them are good. So far, Astrometica seems like one of the great ones. The new PC game sets you up as the survivor of some mining colony mishap who’s been jettisoned on an escape pod.

Now, your wilderness is the deepest, darkest depths of space, armed with your wits and some basic tools. You know the routine here – everything starts small, but more poking around grants rewards and oddities and the occasional existential threat.

There’s definitely a whiff of horror game here, not least since it’s an agoraphobe’s total nightmare. Subnautica comes to mind in the way slinking around in zero gravity feels like exploring the ocean depths. Ultimately, you feel equally as small and vulnerable. Those things you may be, but you’re cunning too, and that’s how you’ll stay alive.

You can check out a preview for free, featuring a vertical slice of all the things you’ll be worrying about in the full game, including battery life, your vehicle, and of course, crafting. It’s a good way to see if the blend of sci-fi horror and escapism works for you.

Astrometica is available on Steam now, and Astrometica: Prologue can be played for free. Consult our upcoming PC games list for other releases you should be aware of, both on Earth and beyond.
